Community South Medical Center: Strategic Plan HCA 340 Instructor: Ken Feifer 19 December 2011 Community South Medical Center: Strategic Plan As the CEO of the Community South Medical Center, it is time to evaluate and revise the organization’s strategic plan. First, the last revision of the plan was three years ago and one of the recommendations I want to implement is to see our plan as a dynamic process and continue to assess our directions due to unexpected circumstances and to persistently work towards improvement. We have had a recent decline in our T.J.C compliance, HR will play a vital role in ensuring the members we bring into our organization are motivated and compliant to our guidelines. They will also be the focal point of ensuring our staff members are treated fairly and are able to perform their duties without discrimination. One of the issues we are currently facing is a shortage of clinical staff, to include registered nurses, respiratory therapist, and medical technologist – and an abundant number of physicians on staff. The team, along with the HR office will need to reevaluate the services that our organization provides and redefine the positions we will maintain. They will also be obligated to report any trends they witness where our finances and/or resources are not being utilized appropriately. The accounting office will also monitor our reimbursement sources. Currently, our reimbursement source is as follows: 25 percent Medicaid (up 20%); 35 percent Medicare (down 12 %); 25 percent employer sponsored health insurance (unchanged), 8 percent managed care (down 20 %), 4 percent private pay (unchanged) and 4 percent no-pay (up 25%). Our organization is located in an urban area and large well-paying businesses have been replaced with smaller shops and businesses. Community South Medical Center has a positive bottom line and is striving to enhance health services for the population it serves; therefore, we need to develop a plan that enable us to continue to provide quality care at an affordable price our population can
