Combs COMM 200 Interpersonal Relationships Professor Brian Goldberg February 21, 2012 Interpersonal Relationships 2 There are two bases on how effectively we communicate within our interpersonal, social, and professional relationships. Behaviors, attitudes, and perception are actions that can impact this skill. Verbal and nonverbal communications are factors that can improve or hinder how efficient the lines of communication will be. The exchange of dialogue is one of the most important things we do as human beings. Communication is how we connect, learn, and grown as individuals. Developing an intimate relationship is built off the type of language we use and how well we relate. According to Bower, “Conversational partners relate to the use of function words.” There must be an understanding and mutual interest in order to maintain a stable and romantic relationship. In completing the Language Style Matching website, I found it insignificant to accurately give a sense of familiarity by the use of instant messages between two people. “There are different types of language and functions of language, states Sole.” With the website not being familiar with the different ebonics, slang, and pneumonic used to communicate, it was difficult to give an accurate account regarding the conversation. The results focused a lot on the grammar versus the content of the information. The website did not ask enough demographic information to help aid in its decision of compatibility. Different cultures have different writing styles. Different genders tend to focus more or less on various topics as well.
