Fredrick O.Adeyemi Eng 102 The Consequences of Adopting a New Language The text Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez is an autobiography about his path to education in the United States. He uses educational challenges facing immigrants and the consequences these may bring to explain the difficulty of his transition from speaking Spanish to learning and speaking English. His parents teach him Spanish which is his first language, although he lives and attends school in America. However, he has to learn English. His parents are Mexican emigrants who are fluent in Spanish and rarely speak English, so they have difficulties communicating with their neighbors.
The pastor Juan Bautista Llorens oversaw artists from New Spain who worked to decorate the beautiful interior of the church. Amazing murals and statues are abounding at this place; a true marvel to see the skill that these artists possessed. However, in 1797 funds ran out and many of the artists and master artisans were let go. Many paintings and some of the structure itself were left unfinished. Not to worry though!
They received several entries with creative ideas that included filling the center of the cathedral with dirt and building the dome on top of that, to placing supports within the cathedral, but it was Brunelleschi who went to the Opera with drawings, but a secretive plan where he said he could build the dome without supports, but he wouldn't elaborate. Despite his secrecy, they chose Brunelleschi's plan, and construction on Brunelleschi's dome began. Dome Building As Brunelleschi began to build the dome, most people in Florence shook their heads and said it was impossible. There was no conceivable way to build a dome that size that would be self-supporting. Brunelleschi was undaunted, and his plans began to take form.
Swayne Francis English 12 Hunger of Memory In the text “Hunger of memory” the author Richard Rodriguez writes about his life as a Mexican decedent, who was born and raised in America. When Rodriguez was a kid, he experiences the difficulty of the transaction from speaking Spanish to learning and speaking English. He was taught Spanish by his parent, which became his first language but being that he was living in America and attending school meant that he had to learn English. Rodriguez parents were Mexican emigrants who were fluent in Spanish and rarely spoke English, so they had difficulties communicating with Richard in English. Rodriguez realized that living in America meant that he would have to become fluent in English despite the culture of his family because it was the only way he could become a legit member of the American society.
I’ve been looking for a job lately to maintain my finance matters. When I finally found the job I wanted, I applied immediately and after waiting for a reply from the applied job I had received a letter saying that I am not fit for the job even though my CV was about perfect. Afterwards, I decided to go to the workplace of the job that rejected me to know the reason why I wasn’t taken for the job. When I arrived at the company I was feeling uneasy as all the workers there were white which wasn’t a problem for a black man like me but they were giving looks which told me that I wasn’t welcome here. I went to one of the receptionists to ask them to have a talk with their manager which I was not allowed to do by the receptionist.
On Sept. 22, 2012, I had the opportunity to interview Richard at Community Fire Department in MI. Because of schedule conflicts, it took a while for us to finally sit down and talk. I asked him some questions that would give me an insight into what he deals with on a daily basis. Some questions were personal in nature, but were asked for a deeper understanding of what makes a good man as well as a good chief. I arrived at the station and entered into the downstairs meeting room.
“Scullen et al. (2003) demonstrated the core role of communication in work performance at the individual level. They also included a human skills component in their conceptualization of managerial job performance in which the ability to communicate with others was strongly highlighted.” (Jordan et al. 2012, p700) From the first day, the problems started when Brian and Boyce didn’t make their daily quotas, which was 7,5 lengths, Tom wasn’t satisfied but he didn’t say anything thinking it

Working at general motors !!!!!! On February 19,th 2010 I started a new job working for general motors as a custodian for four hours a day I loved my job and the people were really nice all but this one. This man thought he was better than anybody else I was outside one day on a smoke break when he was on the phone with his girlfriend having a argument he then gets off the phone at this time I’m just turning around from looking up at the sky thinking how beautiful the day was with I guess a grin on my face that made him mad he then make the rudest comment “ if I didn’t wipe that smile off my face he was going to wipe it off for me”. I went back into the plant and started working not letting it bother me. But the more and more I thought about it, it
When I was younger, like many other eight year olds, I had to tolerate young kids that aspired to be professional bullies. I must admit that they were very creative when it came to calling me Mexican and telling me to “go back and cross the border.” These jokes, I simply did not understand given that everything I knew was back in my country, Venezuela. However, I was aware that I had to adapt to the American culture, which for some reason included border jokes. After many frustrating nights full of tears and disappointments as I tried to complete homework in a foreign language, I decided that it was time to go wash my face and stand up for myself. I never confronted my tormenters; instead I gave them a reason to stop the witty remarks.
