In this essay I am going to describe how anti-discriminatory practice is promoted in health and social care settings. In addition to this I am going to write about the ethical principles and I am going to think about putting the patient/service user at the heart of service provision, for example providing active support consistent with the beliefs, culture and preferences of the individuals, supporting individuals to express their needs and preferences, empowering individuals, promoting individuals’ rights, choices and wellbeing; balancing individual rights with the rights of others; dealing with conflicts; identifying and challenging discrimination. • Autonomy: this means a person choice has got to be respected not matter what. • Beneficence: this means health care professional should act in a way that is beneficial to the patient; this could involve costs and risks. • Non-maleficence; this means that any harm caused by treatment or involvement this should not outweigh the benefits of any treatment. When you get assessed, the minimum you will be given are information and signposting to other services, and how you are able to fund these.
