These studies show how conversing uses different cognitive skills than other activities and takes up a human brain’s “bandwidth” (Novotney). She also makes another valid point that “Most people would not think of getting in a car with someone who has been drinking, but they do not have a problem getting in to a car with someone who is using their cell phone” (Novotney). The rising number of cell phone related auto accidents shows that this is a dangerous problem, yet many teens feel they can use their phones without it affecting their driving. Cell phone
The problem is Americans are bound to their phones. The cell phone companies are relying on us to talk and text all of the time. Americans are addicting to using their cell phones. Cellular phones, for most people today, are a necessity in our lives. People take their phones everywhere they go. These days, phones have gotten even more complex and we use them as a means for communication by voice, text, sound, and video. Cell phones are considered such a necessity and the issue has risen regarding the use of phones while driving. These days texting while driving is being compared to driving while being drunk.
Today we live in a new world full of different technology, which includes computers, cell phones, video game systems and much more. One of the most common technologies today is the cell phone. The most common thing the cell phone is used for is texting. In “Love in the Age of Texting”, by Natalie Moore, it shows how texting made it difficult for Natalie to have a relationship with her boyfriend and how it made them break up because of it. With the new inventions of texting and other ways of communicating through technology, it seems that more and more people would rather just be a face behind a screen.
They also heavily utilize social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Skype for entertainment. In the recent years, cell phones carry out mobile money transactions whereby the SIM card is the unique personal identifier. Banks have also made it easier for their customers to access their accounts, check balances, and receive bank statements from their phones. For this psychology project, I decided that I would deprive myself of something that is in my life 24/7, my phone. Choosing this, I think, was one of the most interesting things I could of done because it is so personal to me and is in my life at all times and completely taking something away that's with you all the time can really have an effect on someone. It gave me a taste of childhood, when phones weren't really too popular and kept so close to you as you would your credit card or car keys. I spent basically all my time on my phone and it gave me a big reality check that, there are so many other productive things you can do with life other than sit there and be on your phone. Before I decided to go through with this experience, I collected the amount of hours I was on my phone, and sadly, it was basically for at least 20 minutes each hour, between the time I woke up, untill the time I fell asleep.
Lately every time you turn the TV on, there is always an ad from a cell phone carrier bashing another cell phone carrier. Being a loyal Verizon customer, you tend to pick up on the AT&T and Verizon ads more than anyone else. You tend to battle over which carrier is better, especially if your spouse or someone close to you has AT&T and you have Verizon. This piece works because it compares the AT&T coverage map to that of Verizon’s. The misfit toy ad works very well because it compares the AT&T iPhone to a bunch of toys that were the toy that every kid had to have at Christmas time.
Texting is Ruining Social Skills It has been argued that many people currently prefer texting rather than a phone call. While some people consider its low cost, others argue that texting is convenient because it can be done anywhere including when travelling or in a meeting without any interference from anyone. Today, people also choose to socialize through text on their smart phones and social websites. It is fact that even recent generations such as younger people are more involved in texting. Let us not forget that even older people are engaging in texting as well.
I can almost guarantee you that without awareness of this issue these numbers will continue to rise. So believe me when I say it can wait. Figure 2: This figure above also provided exceptional facts to the risks teens and young drivers are subject to when stepping behind the wheel of a motor vehicle with a cell phone. I don’t want to use these facts to scare people but to inform them that anything can happen to anyone and that no one is invincible. These small details may seem boring but if this paper can help change someone’s mind to stop using the phone while driving imagine how many lives alone one person can
