Obviously Mr Birling believes that Gerald Croft is an ideal husband for his daughter, not because he loves her (in fact he later shows the opposite), but because Croft's business connections complements Mr Birling's business. This is shown immediately when Arthur Birling states, 'You'll be marrying at a very good time.'
Joseph Walker 2/10/12 Intro to Security The Station Nightclub Fire There were many issues regarding this nightclub that caused this horrible fire that claimed the lives of 100 people. There were a couple threats involved that made this fire so bad. The main threat that happened was the pyrotechnics failed and ignited a flame on the stage. One of the bad design flaws of this building was that they used a highly flammable insulation. This insulation is known as polyurethane foam insulation.
When asked why he took the case, Schlichtmann responded, “pride, greed, ambition. Getting rich by doing good (491).”Greed was his motivating factor but Schlichtmann quickly learned that being rich isn’t so difficult, being famous isn’t so difficult, being rich and famous together aren’t so difficult, but being rich, famous and doing good together was very difficult. 2.2 million dollars later and his residence as homeless, Schlichtmann surely let greed blind him. It is hard to say whether Schlichtmann persevered with the case because of a change of heart, or because the mere fact that he had invested almost a decade of his life to it. However I do feel competent in saying that after receiving the verdict against Beatrice and despite being broke, Schlichtmann persevered because he cared about this case.
It saddens me today that I have to gather you here with news of this magnitude. Today one of our copper mines collapsed with thirty-three men getting trapped 2,000 feet below ground. At this time we are not sure of the condition of the men, but rest a sure that we are making every attempt into located them and bringing them home to safety. Let me inform you that the mines can be very dangerous and before we start the rescue we want to ensure that they are out of harm’s way. Once we have this information we can begin with the rescue.

The “Red Death” was so devastating, it destroyed half the population. This horrific plague contained the most horrific manifestations. The manifestations consist of sharp pains, sudden dizziness, and profuse bleeding at the pores with disintegration. Anyone that the plague came upon, caused reddening stains on the face and the body would appear, which caused the individual to be thrown in a secluded quarantine factory.

Alas, Babylon, written by Pat Frank, is a frightening pessimistic story because the dramatic effects of a nuclear war almost wipes out the population, causes more criminal activity, and a rampage of diseases to spread across the country. The life of the River Road Family took a fatalistic turn after a massive bombing by the Soviet Union kills millions of people, including their friends and family. “This was the end. Civilization was crushed” (page 103).
Being knocked down a peg in society brings us back to wishing we could just accept or afford the little house with the picket fence. As soon as we are able to fulfill that dream again, if ever, we become greedy again. People crave for more and I believe it is only human to feel this way; this helps us to fit into society and feel as though we are living the American dream. For some people they struggle to live the American dream and tend look to the government for help. Feeling helpless due to the economy they become addicted to claiming help from other sources other than themselves because it just seems easier.
The Chernobyl accident that took place in 1986 is worst ever nuclear disaster faced by mankind. The accident that took place on April, 1986 is the result of a flawed reactor design and incompetent personals that were not properly trained. As a result of the accident, extremely harmful and toxic radioactive elements were released into the environment, the fallout of which is felt even to this day. The accident had tremendous health, economic, social and environmental consequences and it severely affected the lives of a huge section of population in the countries of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. The main radioactive elements that cause maximum damage to the affected population were iodine-131 and caesium-137.
