Although very much separated on the eastern hemisphere, degradation of the Roman Empire and Han China came in similar waves; the results of the ruined civilizations, however, varied in impact of future civilization. The decline and fall of a great of empire as the Roman would have to be a result of many strong tribulations. To start with, the spread of diseases such as smallpox vastly severed its numbers and even killed the emperor Marcus Aurelius. With a population of 60 million in 180 B.C. the Roman demographic was reduced by 25%.
The fall of the Roman Empire was partially caused by foreign invasions. Document C, showed that the Huns from China took over Rome. So did the Vandals and Visigoths in 418 CE and 439 CE. Also, a timeline, listed before document A, states that invasions began from 27 BCE and ended during 476 CE,
The Reasons for the Fall of the Roman Empire The Roman Empire reigned for roughly five hundred years, a time period around twenty-seven B.C. to four hundred and seventy-six A.D. Throughout the reign of the Roman Empire, it would be full of plenty and poverty before ultimately spiraling to its downfall. Rome fell for an extraordinary amount of reasons, and the majority of these reasons were due to the immaturity and lack of respect and self-control within the roman upper class and royalty. Despite the fact that the Roman Empire could have fallen from diseases, famine or disasters the majority of the reasons would actually result from the people, upper class and religion.
Throughout Asia and in China the spread of devastating epidemics may have killed up to half of the entire Chinese population. This led to 3 centuries of complete turmoil. In Rome there were many different plagues that had spread throughout the empire. These diseases were mainly caused by poverty. The citizens of Rome were driven to poverty due to tax collections and this meant that they were not even able to take care of themselves.
However during the middle ages this all seemed to come crashing down, due to civil wars and peoples push for power over the entire Empire. During this time most of the reforms and finding in education seemed to have been lost or destroyed by leaders. By doing this the entire Roman Empire fell and was destroyed. It would take more time after this to relearn everything lost. The Roman Empire went from an elite civilization down into a bunch of warring people fighting for land.
The plague was so severe that it affected almost the whole sectors of life; including economic sectors, personal lives of people, and various others. The Black Death’s most severe affect was on the population. The population of Europe was deeply affected by it as there was no cure for such a disease. The reason the plague spread so wildly was because of the fleas and rats that carried it from one place to another in their skin. Within five years of the arrival of the disease, Europe saw 25 million people die.
My personal opinion is that Rome collapsed because of all the factors mentioned in this paper (and many more that I didn’t list). Some factors played larger roles than others but I think Rome’s collapse was due many, many variables. No matter how great a civilization or empire is, I think it’s inevitable that eventually, it will fall. How long it will take to fall what is unknown. I believe, unfortunately, the USA will one day crumble.
The most affected areas were the smaller communities, the rural areas and the less hygienic areas which were emptied and thoroughly became depopulated. However, there were also some areas where the population was already so low that the plague could not progress and spread as much as it did in the populated cities and closely tied villages and counties. As more people began to move into the cities and villages the plague spread and resulted in more deaths. Fleeing from a place that carried the disease only led to the further spread of the plague in other parts of
The Roman Republic was facing internal problems that would cause it to ultimately collapse into the Roman Empire. Including social unrest between the classes and military entering into politics, among other reasons, the Roman Republic crumbled under itself and gave way to the beginning of new government. A second triumvirate ended with civil war and the Republic was over; however, Octavian created the Roman Empire in its place. Because of the stabilizing government, strong legal system and increasing trade, the Pax Romana was able to remain tied together for about 210 years. The Roman Republic was struggling to remain in power but the social unrest was a not a helping factor in helping the Republic to last for a while longer.
Rome had a lot of great rulers like Julius Ceaser or Augustus. But, they also had crazy rulers such as Commodus or Caligula. Well Caligula was mentally unstable due to inbreeding in the family and On October 37 A.D., Caligula fell seriously ill. He recovered from his illness soon thereafter, but many believed that the young emperor had changed into a diabolical mind as he started to
