According to "Fast Food Nation," typical fast food fare is high in saturated fat, calories and cholesterol. While fast food often gets a bad rap in the media, it has some advantages. According to Bill Myers Online, Americans spend more money on fast food than on new cars, college education and software because fast food is so convenient.
He continues by saying that people also may say that fast food is cheaper when measured by the calorie but when half of the people in this country consume too many calories rather than too few, measuring food’s cost by the calorie makes no sense. Bittman clearly states that the cost of fast foods aren’t as cheap as we have all tricked ourselves into thinking and that the obvious choice should be home cooked meals. As well as using hard evidence, Bittman also manages to convince his readers of his credibility because of his background and knowledge of food. For the average working class family living life on the go, it can save a lot of time and money. Also, the industry itself creates and perpetuates millions of jobs for the economy (often with low wages and poor benefits). The most common reason people continue to eat fast food, despite their knowledge of the negative effects, is the simple fact that it tastes good. The addictive and yet fattening qualities associated with fast food leave people constantly craving one more bite.
In this concept the size zero dream has actually proved to be good for business. It is a well played game with an ongoing cycle. Fast food chains would keep people from losing weight and help them gain more. Media would make people want to lose weight and reach goals that are considered unrealistic for most people. So they refer to the presumably diet versions of products, weight loss products and programs.

Most people nowadays depend on fast food restaurants in their daily life. There are many reasons for the popularity of fast food restaurants. The three main reasons are: fast food is convenient, it tastes delicious, and it is inexpensive. First of all, fast food restaurants are popular because they are convenient for our active in modern day lives.

(“Dope, A High Price for Healthy Food”) This basically shows that unhealthy food are a better bargain for people who are tight on money. The bad thing about it is that the prices for healthy food are continuing to rise while “junk food” is relatively the same or a tad bit lower. America's low income families are therefore In a cycle where since they can't afford healthy food they eat bad, which in turns leads to bad health which leads then leads to high insurance and medical bills which ultimately causes them to get poorer or remain at the bottom of the pyramid. Why is healthy food so much more expensive than regular food?
Fast food is quick, cheap, and easy which makes it all the more appealing. McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s are among some of the most popular fast food choices in the nation. Each of these chains have “healthy alternative” food choices on their menu such as salads and wraps but much of what the company advertises are foods high in calories and low in nutritional value including the ever so common double cheeseburger and fries. Only about 17% of typical menu items qualify as healthy choices. Frequent consumption of these high calorie low nutrient foods may lead to serious weight gain (FRAC).
Healthy choices are always more expensive than bad choices. In “A Tax That Invests in Our Health” by Richard F. Daines, he remarks the reason that people prefer bad choice over healthy choice. He writes, Healthy choices are rising in price while the cost of bad choices falls. Low-fat milk costs more than soda. So grocery stores in poorer neighborhoods stock less milk and more soda, and the relentless advertising from the beverage industry and fast food joints makes sweet drinks an expected part of daily living.

When people think of fast food, healthy is one of the last things that comes to mind. Fast food is meant to be fast, not fattening! It’s is convenient, pleasing, and inexpensive, but when that’s the majority of what one eats, a healthy lifestyle is not expected.
Not only does past contain more calories but it also contains more unhealthy fat. It is also high in sodium. An average human needs a certain amount of salt in their body per day, however when eating fast food the person eats more salt then they are supposed to. Fast food also contains a lot of chemicals and additives that make the food not spoiled or look better. All the additives in our foods have been extensively tested before being added to our food, but it still makes sense to limit the amount of artificial chemicals we ingest.
