Media and Memory: Audience Research into 9/11 Introduction The following report is based on the events of September 11th 2001. On that morning, 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger planes and in a series of suicide attacks, proceeded to crash the jets into their preplanned targets. The first plane struck at 8:46am when American Airlines Flight 11 hit Tower 1 of the World Trade Center, the second attack occurred 17 minutes later when a second jet United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into Tower 2, within 2 hours the twin towers of the World Trade Center had collapsed, and thirdly American Airlines Flight 77 at 09:37am collided into the Pentagon. This proved to be the last attack as the passengers
More should have been done between the President, CIA, FBI and other appropriate anti-terrorism officials regarding this group and/or its leader. Some may say that the President himself was aware of Osama’s direct dwelling, but because it was a suspected site and not a validated site he withheld attacking. “…the Clinton administration knew the broad outlines in 1996 of bin Laden's capabilities and his intent, and unfortunately, almost nothing was done about it." (Lichtblau, 2005) This gave space for another attack from Al-Qaeda. On October 12, 2000 the USS Cole was attacked by suicide terrorist of Al Qaeda killing American sailors and injuring others.
September 11, 2001 (9/11) was the first time American’s had experienced an act of terrorism at such an intense level. Fourteen minutes before 9 a.m. a commercial passenger airplane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center (WTC). The second plane crashed into the South Tower at about 9:03 a.m. At about 9:43 a.m. an aircraft crashed into the Pentagon and shortly after 10 a.m. both WTC towers collapsed. The fourth plane was brought down in rural Pennsylvania. Americans everywhere were angry, fearful, and heartrending.
I hesitantly put my head down on my desk and paused for a long period of time, while the other kids didn’t really care. The reason I was acting that way is because I knew what was going on and most of the others didn’t. The first tower had already been crashed into by flight 11 at 8:46 am. The plane had crashed into the north side. I had come to realize how bad this was, knowing that 250 people were stuck I that building and those 250 either suffocated to death or jumped out plummeting to
An important moment in history was the Sept. 11th suicide attacks on the U.S. that was coordinated by Al-Qaeda, sending our country into another war. The 9/11 attacks were so significant to the world because it was the biggest planned hijacking and took the most innocent lives during the 21st century. The horrific events now constitute as part of United States history and have become an influence in decisions still being made to this day. On September 11, 2001 two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. A third plane then crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers attempted to regain control of the plane from the hijackers.
A day of chaos, confusion, and pure tragedy has left America and every American, whose day stopped on September 11th, 2001, permanently scarred. Clouds of thick, gray, debris-filled smoke engulfed downtown Manhattan shortly after two planes were hijacked and flown into the Twin Towers. The tragedy continued to shock the nation when a third plane crashed into the Pentagon and many were wondering if the attacks would ever end after a fourth plane plummeted to earth, crashing into a field in Pennsylvania. The emotions and thoughts that filled every American on that day are indescribable, but the effects 9/11 has had on today's society are rather easy to recognize. The 9/11 attacks on America have torn apart families, ostracized Muslims, and left
September 11th, 2001 In my perspective, what happened on September 11th, 2001, was an act of terrorism on the United States. It was a decade ago that 19 terrorists took control of four planes, flew two into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, hit the Pentagon with a third, and crashed the fourth in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers resisted and made it impossible for the terrorists to complete their mission. The government also thought that 9/11 was an act of terrorism put on by the Muslims. While conspiracy theorists have a different perspective because they believe that there was more to this attack, it was plotted out and people from America were in on it. There have been many different perspectives on what really happened on this day.
This plane carried nine flight attendants, and eighty-one passengers, including the five terrorists. The hijacking started at about 8:14. To start the hijacking, two of the terrorists-Wail al Sheri and Waleed al Shehri- got out of their seats in first class and stabbed two of the Flight attendants. The terrorists somehow got into the cockpit. Atta was the only one of the five terrorists that was trained to fly a jet.
United States officials concluded that it was a terrorist attack by Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda-trained terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed three of them into buildings. Two hit the World Trade Center towers and one hit the Pentagon. The fourth was believed to be destined for the White
Individual Work-Week 1 Melissa Moore Everest College, CPO4003-2 Instructor DePlato 4/16/14 “At 8:46 on the morning of September 11, 2001, the United States became a nation transformed” (Nobrega, 2013). In less than 90 minutes, The Twin Towers, a big part of American symbolism, collapsed when airliners piloted by Islamic extremists flew into them. Two more attacks followed; one at 9:37 when a third airliner slammed into the Pentagon and at 10:03 when a fourth was overtaken by heroic passengers and was forced down in a field in southern Pennsylvania. These terrorists lived within our borders and were trained in our flight schools. The knowledge that we provided them allowed them to effectively turn four hijacked planes into deadly guided missiles.
