Atticus used logos to attempt at logically convincing this racist jury that there was no way Mr. Robinson could have committed the rape. The first fact thrown at the jury was, “The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence”. Which was true, they did not have a doctor confirm that Miss Mayela was actually raped; they instead went by the word of the two most unreliable people in Maycomb County. The fact that Mr. Bob Ewell would not have a doctor confirm that his daughter had been raped had to have been a sign that his story was not credible. The second fact was, “Mayela Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left”.
Ronda Morrison’s murder takes place in Monrcoeville, Alabama, where Harper Lee grew up and wrote To Kill A Mockingbird. People there are crazy about that story. But when Bryan Stevenson tries to get the community to help Walter McMillian, an innocent African-American man, there is only indifference and hostility (Stevenson). Li 2 Li 2 As defendants, Tom Robinson and Walter McMillian are both black and innocent. Tom Robinson is accused of raping a white woman, Mayella Ewell who in fact
No one could possibly say Tom was the one who has beaten Mayella up. Moreover, when Atticus asked Bob to write his name down on a piece of paper, Bob used his left hand instead of the right distinctively and inconsiderably. That's again evidence against the deceitful Ewells. Bob is the one who is likely to have beaten his daughter up, not the poor Tom. The Ewells' plan was revealed transparently.
Anthony could then sue Washington for hitting him with her car. However, since Anthony was negligent as well for running into the street I do not think that he would be able to win in the state of Maryland since he was also at fault. Anthony could then sue the doctor for negligence since she owes Anthony a higher standard of care since she is acting in her professional capacity. She has breached her duty to
R. J. had previously been physically aggressive towards two other staff members, which the employer was aware of. However, McMurtrie was not aware of this prior history. McMurtrie’s case was that she would have dealt R.J differently had she known that he could be aggressive to nurses. The trial judge decided that the Quadriplegic Centre was negligent because it failed to notify McMurtrie
In March of this year, Ruben Castaneda wrote an article for the Washington Post about an incident that occurred in February of the same year. In February, a man by the name of Harold J. Stewart was prosecuted under the suspicion of murder in Montgomery, Georgia. He was accused of beating a man who was sleeping to death with a baseball bat. Like Colin Ferguson, Stewart decided that he would be a pro se defendant. His reason- he felt that they were not giving him the rights he deserved by denying him access to the law library and the state Attorney Grievance Commission.
Technically, Mickey’s attacks are not spouse abuse, but straightforward assault and battery. The deliberation of rape, another obvious situation in the case, is never addressed. When Francine seeks help from various social agencies, they let her down, advising her to get a lawyer. For some reason, she is unable or unwilling to take this step, and she even shows a reserve at first to deal with her own court-appointed attorney. Her fears are that the law might turn against her, declare her an unfit mother, or otherwise destroy her
When it came to the court, the courthouse was filled with people, and when Atticus actually proved that Tom was innocent, people were furious. Because Mayella had bruises on the right side of her face, arm, and neck, but what people didn´t know was that Tom couldn´t use his left hand , because it was shorter than the other and it hung dead by his side, and he therefore could only use his left hand, so he couldn´t have hit Mayella or raped her. It had probably been done by someone who had been left handed, most likely Bob Ewell, her father, Atticus then claimed that Mayella had lied about the rape because she broke the „code“ that says white women cant be attracted to black men, and Atticus proved this in front of the jury that Tom Robinson was innocent, but that wasn´t enough, the jury still found Tom Robinson guilty, just because he was black. After that, Tom Robinsons tried to escape, he tried to run away and climb over a fence, and got shot trying to run away and was killed, when Atticus found out, he personally went to miss Robinsons house and tells her that Tom has died, anybody else would have sent a messenger to do that, because a white man should not spend time in a black neighborhood.
This would make some readers feel pity for Mayella as she is lamenting due to horrific flashbacks she may encounter, others may think that this is a cover up as she knows what she is doing is wrong, and she is trying to get the judge and the jury to side with her. This technique is used by Lee to make the ruler think and engage the readers. This view shared with Jem: “she’s got enough sense to get the judge sorry for her, but she might just be just – oh, I don’t know”. Here Harper Lee shows the mental controversy of the characters as that the trial has brought on
After an insane hysteria caused by John Proctor admitting the affair he had with Abigail, he is sentenced to hang. After he tries to sign a false confession, he tears it and cries out, “I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!” (143).
