When a person has only one tool, they will start viewing all issue in a way that fits the nature or advantage of the tool they have and develop dependency on that specific tool, which can be described by the term confirmation bias. Such a concept can also be applied on pursuing knowledge with the ways of knowing introduced in IB TOK. This leads to a knowledge issue: What are the consequences of over relying on one way of knowing? I think we will become narrow minded and our ability to pursuit knowledge will be limited since every way of knowing has it’s limitation. We will not be able to view things from different perspective given our heavy reliance on one single tool. As what Bertolt Brecht said ‘A man with only one theory is a lost man’. Over reliance on emotion can be an obstacle of pursuing knowledge due to its irrational nature. I think emotion is irrational because it always makes me sweat on things that don’t matter, and it sometimes leads me to weird decision. This makes us neglect some important aspects of knowledge. For example, my grandparents believe that after they attend a funeral, they have to walk across a fire pit before they get back to their house. They believe souls in the funeral homes will follow them after they left. To drive them away, they have to walk across a fire pit, as souls are afraid of fire. This prevents souls causing trouble at their home. However, there is no evidence to support the action or the theory behind the action. They perform such action because
