The government has decided that addiction to these types of harmless drugs is okay, and then provides us with safe ways to access and ingest them. Could it be that the moment you turn to an illegal drug, you forfeit any chance of safety that the government could offer to you? Illegal drug use surrounds us every day, in fact, substance abuse is not a problem that will go away by banishing users to the streets; such attitudes only exacerbate this ever so common, serious issue. Critics argue that safe injection sites condone a criminal act, whereas, others argue that it’s better to focus on enabling addicts to practice the behavior more safely. While we must appreciate the moral perspectives some attempt to embody, good public policy must be measured by its effectiveness and ability to actually achieve the goals it is designed to respond to.
Empathy and drug addiction Thomas Dawson Interpersonal Communication Empathy is the ability of one person to understand another’s point of view, and is important in some approaches to drug addiction treatment, in which the empathizer understands the addict’s point of view as valid. Empathy is powerful in building trust, and in developing a good relationship with the user, especially if the user’s behavior has lead to judgment and criticism from others in the past. It takes some people a very hard time to have empathy for drug addicts especially if they never had to go through life knowing and loving someone addicted to something as evil as drugs. Then after all the time, sweat and tears of understanding what empathy really means and to finally stop all the negativity and hate towards someone you love and to finally want to help this person you lose them to the power of the addiction. This happens every day to people all over the world, even me, and is a topic that people need to hear and understand.
As with soma, prescription drugs (where prescribed or otherwise) provide a quick fix for physical or mental problems and/or a way to get high. But these drugs also hurt the users, with addiction, bodily functions failing and making them be violent. The use of drugs has severe effects on the users and not only in reality but also in Brave New World. Usually people turn to drugs for relief and contentment, they want to be in a state of mind where they can feel things which they usually can’t and to be in a state of pleasure so they turn to them. Most do not realise the harsh long term effects these drugs can
Activists on Prescription Drug Abuse Around the world there are so many teens looking to get drugs. A big part of them abuse prescription drugs for a non-medical purpose to alter the way they think or use their mind, and it can even leave them in a dependent state (NIDA, 2008). They choose most prescription drugs mainly for how accessible they are. They go into any drug store and can pick up even a cold medicine to go on a trip. The reason it is such a big problem is because it can lead to over dosing and possible dying.
According to SAMHSA (n.d) Teens and young adults are using prescription drugs for recreation in growing numbers. (Young Workers at Increased Risk). While prescription drugs are useful in managing the drugs intended purposes the abuse of these drugs can impose negative side-effects, which may result in workforce impairment of that individual. Understanding the risk associated with illicit and prescription drugs are important in minimizing its risk. Policies and procedures they mitigate and handle drug use in the workplace is a key factor in deterring drug use in the workplace that many organizations need to maintain.
In fact drugs are being encouraged for anyone in need of it. However in today's society drugs seem to result in chaos rather than stability. It is illegal to take drugs with the exception of prescription drugs. Sadly in our society, drugs are also quickly available for those that want it. Unlike soma, the drugs produce numerous negative aftereffects.
For those who don’t live a pleasant life and need to get away from their problems, although meth creates more problems in the long run, for the time being it creates a type of euphoric escape for the addict. Financially, it’s easy to sell, cheap to create, and quick money and it serves as a job for drug dealers. For people who have trouble paying bills or can’t get a job, selling drugs is a quick fix. Using this perspective we can see that people who are addicted to meth probably already need help, either emotionally or mentally. Maybe eliminating the deep seeded issues in these individuals before they turn to meth would prevent a large part of the problem.
The public is able to buy them at their free will resulting in drugs corrupting schools and America’s youth. The age regulation of drugs would have a positive effect on the drug use of America’s youth, it would be much harder for them to get. Today, it’s a lot more common to witness a drug deal happen in school rather than someone selling alcohol or cigarettes. It is extremely dangerous to drug users because there is no regulation, making a lot of buyers unaware of the potency of the drug or if some other drug is it. This is the main reason for overdose in America, the majority of the people that use drugs are not always sure on what really is in it.
Drug Trafficking in the United States from Mexico Drug trafficking in the United States and Mexico is a huge problem for the United States because it has a negative impact on other areas in society such as crime rates. The government needs to find a solution to better control drug trafficking because it claims lives and destroys families. Research shows Marijuana and Cocaine are the top two most illegally abused drugs in the United States. James Gray (2001) points out: Not only is this drug-money corruption problem of enormous concern in its own right, but additional lawless behavior often is derived from it as well. For example, the entire southern California area was shocked in September 1999 when a former officer of the Rampart Division
An individual can put himself/herself in danger along with the other people it may affect due to careless actions. Some people have a different mentality that they do not need to think twice before they react. The criminal mind is amongst many that have a thought process that has the intent to overlook the consequences of their actions. Most criminals have the mentality that they will not get caught or don’t care if they do. They feel as if they have a full proof plan and have thought out every step thoroughly.
