You would think that when US troops got sent all the way to Vietnam, there wouldn’t be little problems, if that, here in America. Well, that is exactly what the American people thought. Americans thought this war would be quick and that the US army would absolutely kill the Vietnamese. This was not the case, Americans back home finally realized that this may not turn out to be as good as they thought. People back home began to see changes in their lives and they didn’t like it. The Vietnam War caused social, political, and economic tensions back in the United States. The Vietnam War resulted in economic problems back in the United States. In document D it shows LBJ trying to hold up American society but the Vietnam War is pulling him down. This was exactly the problem. Before the war, Americans were still fighting a war with poverty. In this picture it shows that the war is making poverty worse. It shows that America can’t fight a war in Vietnam and win the war against poverty back in the states. This was a huge social conflict caused by the Vietnam War. College students got deferments and some people thought that was unfair. People who couldn’t afford college were pretty much sent off to war; there weren’t many ways around it. In document G, Richard Nixon is giving his Address to the Nation.
