Lab 2.1: Connecting Computers Exercise 2.1.1 Media, Interface, Signal, Pattern, and Timing are all necessary to establish a network. Media is needed for the physical structure on which the signal will travel. Interface is needed so the computer can access the media. Signal is the means of transmission such as electrical signal. Pattern is the format for the signals to be interpreted. Timing is the synchronization between the communication between the devices. Exercise 2.1.2 The characteristics that allow integration between device drivers and hardware on a network is the computer uses binary code to form signals that allow all the elements of a network to work together. Exercise 2.1.4 Wireless connections on a peer to peer network do not need specialized equipment to communicate because they communicate wirelessly with a pre-decided protocol. They are usually located in a LAN like a home or on the internet. Lab 2.1 Review 1. A network device is equipment used to connect two or more computers together, such as a router, network cable, and network cards. A peripheral device is any external device on a computer such as a mouse, keyboard, or a monitor. 2. I would…show more content…
MAN: A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a large computer network that spans a metropolitan area or campus. Its geographic scope falls between a WAN and LAN. PAN: A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for data transmission among devices such as computers, telephones and personal digital assistants. WAN: Wide Area Network. A network used to transmit data over long distances. The critical distinction between these networks is the area and distance that the networks cover. In network routing, a metric is a measure used in calculating the next host to route a packet
