Question 1 a) * public transport: I spend an average of 5,5 hours on public transport, mostly on trains. Depending on the train it is either a 6 or 9 minute commute to the central station, one way. The reason why I had to make a guess is, I normally walk, or rent a bike from the station to my workplace, but depending on the weather, and me personally, I take the bus. The bus rides take me to roughly 5.5 hours on public transport * air travel: The answer is based on the flights I took this year which are approximately 11.000 miles. A return trip to London and a vacation in California. It is not easy to calculate an average because some years I do 6 to 8 hours flying and other years over 20 hours, when travelling abroad. Also, over the last years I had a couple of flights on small single engine aircrafts. Calculating flying time on airline flights is rather simple, but it is more difficult to track the hours spent flying just for leisure as I am not the pilot. * household energy use: I took 6, which is a little above the middle between green and non-green practice. Although I think that our household is more on the green side than other households I know, it was difficult to put a mark on it. Our daytime temperature is 18.5 degrees and nighttime 17 degrees. We live in a rather new home, built in 2007, with good insulation. Also, I take care with electricity use. My wife and daughter on the other hand often leave the lights on when not necessarily needed. Our appliances have good energy ratings, although there are better ones available and are more expensive. * household green practice: I chose 3. This is a question that is very difficult to answer. We do recycle a great amount of our trash. Glass, paper and cardboard are taken care of at our recycling center. We collect plastic bottles, cups, milk boxes and other recyclable materials which are
