Time Art V. Space Art Instead of a Christmas Story, MadLab presented a post-apocalyptic story; since everyone thinks the world is going to end on December 21st! Age of Bees by Tira Palmquist is an example of time art. The play was almost two hours long and took place in the year 2098. The ancient Roman mosaic Marvelous Menagerie is an example of Space art. This piece is on display at the Columbus Art Museum and is more than 300 square feet large. This ancient Roman mosaic is the world’s largest and best preserved at 1,700 years old. I had never been to the MadLab Theater before so I wasn’t sure how big or small it was or how professional or casual the atmosphere would be. When I walked in, there was a small gallery with different art works on the walls for sale. Then I walked into the theater and the set surprised me. It looked like a proscenium stage but only had about one foot level of stage so the actors were standing on the same floor as the peoples’ feet in the first row. There was a back drop with stage lights and some cool props. They had this old rusty farm tractor on the left, some winter-dead trees, and a rocking chair on the stage. The audience seats were stadium seating and went up maybe 8 or 9 rows. I got there last minute so I decided to sit in the first row and be up close to the action. They had music playing which was nice to listen to while we waited for the show to start. A man came out and introduced the show and then all of the lights went dark and the show started. The setting was in an orchard field where most of the trees were dead. It is the year 2098 and after the apocalypse and the environment is struggling as are the human race. The apocalypse was so bad that all of the bees were forced to extinction. The farm is owned by a lady named Sarah and her man Zed. They take in orphan girls and raise them as their own.
