"Moved with majesty" suggests that he is attractive and has a royal family appearance and all the men admire him and look up to him. "Understanding beyond thought" suggests that he doesn't need to think about things and doesn't even have to think about how to treat people nicely he does it out of consideration to people. He realises how George and Lennie get on and what Lennie is like. "His authority was so great" tells us that he is respected and seen as powerful on the ranch. We know that everyone is quiet when he is speaking and that everyone respects that he is better than them at his job.
He treated Sam well and taught him the ropes when everyone else made fun of him as soon as he walked through the gym door. It showed me a lot about Tiny, and possibly that Tiny was Sam one day and was just retuning the favor. The authors writing style is very easy to follow and understanding, but at times he makes it intense when needed. He writes in a style that keeps you interested all times but does not leave you hanging or guessing. That is the strength of the book I think, not the simplicity but the way he makes you feel as though you are the writer.
“Public men, Mr Birling, have respects as well as privileges” What do you learn about social responsibility in the play ‘An Inspector calls’? The play ‘An Inspector Calls’ was written by JB Priestly in 1946 but set in 1912. The play highlights the values held in society by different groups of people. The Birling family are middle class people and believe they are so thrilled about Gerald and Sheila’s engagement. They all also believe they cannot be blamed for the death of Eva Smith and try to deny any contact with her.
Moreover, Oliver demonstrates many prosodic features in his show. An example of this is his pace which is very quick that he tends to miss out words, often uses a list of three which can also indicate rapid speech and above all are his merged words ‘you gotta get on it’. These examples suggest that Oliver’s pace is always quick as his meals are based mainly on time management, considering his target audience are of a lower social class and very often working class people have very little time to prepare meals. Also, Oliver’s meals are always cost effective, ‘eggs; they’re cheap’ ‘a little goes a long way’ this tells us that that he is aware of his target audience. Based on the purpose to entertain, Lawson displays prosodic and also
When Eggers tone isn’t adoring it can be very condescending of others. This shows through mostly when he is comparing his family consisting of Toph and himself to other more “traditional” families. He refers to himself and Toph as the model family, the new and better version even. He puts down other families’ ways of running their households and raising their kids while boasting about how wonderful he and Toph are. Eggers is very determined to make sure of this.
The main theme in “Free Burgers for Life”, by Ryan Boudinot, is that it is dangerous to be too reliant on others because eventually, everyone will have to survive alone. This is important because everyone will need to undergo some sort of change in their lifetime. Boudinot uses Big Dave’s restaurant to give Elliot a place to go to every day, making him too reliant on a place he will someday have to leave, giving him too much power for his own good. When he wins a drawing, he gets a free deluxe cheeseburger,
This is further emphasized by the symbolic significance of his father’s arms, “I remember his strong, bare, sun-darkened arms on either side of me… the sight of his muscular arms protected me…” Raimond’s relationship with Romulus shapes his sense of self and the world and is revealed in the anaphora of his assertion “I know what a good workman is; I know what an honest man is; I know what friendship is; I know because I remember these things in the person of my father…” By contrast Raimond’s relationship with his mother is characterized as one of “neglect”. Ironically however, whilst his interaction with his mother has the potential to limit his sense of
He was never taught to be mean or think that he was better than anyone else because he had a title and they did not. His mother and grandmother taught him how to be loving and well-mannered man. To me Prince William has an Evolutionary personality because throughout his life he has had to learn how to be normal when the rest of the world he was famous (Kowalski 2013). Prince William had to learn how to keep going and not let the divorce of his parent then his mother’s death keep him for being a great man. He has to keep changing and adapting to the life he was born into rather than let it mess up the path he is
Romulus from Gaita’s biography Romulus my father explores the notion that belonging can only be achieved through intellectual and emotional investment into one’s own life and its surroundings. Romulus’ sense of belonging comes from far more than his simple labour on the land – it comes from the very essence of his character, the strong sense of who he is, defined by his actions. Raimond describes his father with the tri-colon of, “honesty, loyalty, courage and a capacity for hard work”. He further employs the anecdote of his father’s ability to transform metal into beautiful works of art, “He was so at ease with his materials…that they seemed to be in friendship,” to describe the relationship between labour, craftsmanship, and his father’s
Nobody is perfect. But the bad stuff just goes to the back of my head and I think about all the good stuff. Like that I can be the nicest person ever. Like I hate math and he said he would help me but know he can’t because he broke my heart. Well are love is going to have to take time to grow apart.
