“The Scarlet Ibis” is a very good short story. This story is about a boy who is about six years old and has a disability that can not let him walk as the doctors and everyone in his family says. His brother feels embarrassed to have this boy in his life, in the story the brother says that “He was born when I was six and was, from the outset, a disappointment.” (Hurst 3). So his brother sets out on the task of teaching his brother how to walk. In the story, they find a scarlet ibis, a tropical bird not native to the area, in a tree in their yard. He's also afraid for Doodle. He doesn't want Doodle to be hurt. He's trying to protect Doodle from the cruel world. You can see how much the Brother cares for Doodle in these quotes "Aw, come on, Doodle... You can do it. Do you want to be different from everybody else when you start school?","Does it make any difference?","It certainly does.” (Hurst 6). Though Brother's actions are the direct link to Doodle's death, but there are a variety of other
