Slavery was a natural part of the Southern economy even though very few of the population actually owned slaves. Slaves could be rented or traded or sold to pay debts, making them very useful to ranchers. The North didn’t seem to have much use for slaves due to their poor soil; therefor they could not understand why the South was against abolishing slavery. I don’t believe that this war could be avoided due to the issue of slavery. If America didn’t stand against slavery, then the slaves themselves would have eventually done so.
In the end, one plan is always going to be better when put into action, and in this case I believe that W.E.B. Dubois had the better plan. Both of these men set out to fix poverty and discrimination against blacks in America, but their strategies were radically different. Booker T. Washington felt that the only way to become equals in an unequal society is for blacks to work hard and become something. His idea was that if enough blacks were to become doctors, lawyers, businessman, and become successful in general that they could not be considered anything other than equal.
He believed that industry needed to grow and encouraged commerce because it would provide all the revenues it needed. Considering how things are today, the outcome of the nation’s history was mostly in favor of Hamilton’s ideals. The nation’s economy is mixed, with agriculture working alongside industry and trade. Today’s national government is a strong, omnipresent body with authority that overrules the powers of the states, regulates the mixed economy and education. The only exception to this would be universal education, but this would prove to make the nation only stronger.
Lee wrote was a letter to his wife about slavery in 1856. In this letter Lee talks about how “The blacks are immeasurable better off here than in Africa, morally, socially and physically.” By saying this Lee shows his willingness to accept the African American society into the southern white society. Lee isn’t necessary an anti-slavery activist but he isn’t a pro-slavery supporter either. Robert E. Lee once stated that he saw slavery as necessary but not proper. Lee concluded that slavery would help both white and black races grow equally.
From Pearson, “Let us suppose we could prevent the white man, if we liked, from going to lands of which the agricultural and mineral resources are not worked to the full; then I should say a thousand times better for him that he should not go than that he should settle down and live alongside the inferior race”. From this excerpt, we can see that one reason for countries to start colonization is because of to utilize the natural resources of the earth better and with more efficiency. Also, the intervention of the colonial power were to bring “free markets” and trade-routes for their

American History Ind. Studies Imaginary Dialogue Booker T. Washington: First and foremost I feel that my fellow African Americans should first prepare themselves for a decent living rather than fight for equal rights. Why waste your time shouting and pouting when hard work is the key to success. We shouldn’t waste our time when we need time to work and gain land and money. We can buy the land our fellow ancestors have shed blood and sweat for picking cotton and raise our families in a life of peace like we all deserve.
It is obvious that anyone who accepts slavery accepts racism, yet it is empirically evident that in early America, colonists were not racist. One man, Anthony Johnson, who was black, was able to safely and without any repercussions purchase property, the defining mark of a man at this time as according to John Lockian philosophy. This shows that the white men, his neighbors and fellow countrymen, did not believe in racism at that time. However, as we follow the story of the life of the Johnson family to the end, we can see that as time went on and slavery became more popular, only then did racism truly become a popular phenomenon. Compared to the relatively easy access of property at the beginning of his life, when Anthony Johnson died, his property was seized by the government because he was considered to be an outsider due to the color of his skin.
African Americans and the freedoms bestowed upon them are only a result of laws. In the beginning, we were considered property; bought and sold to the highest bidder with no remorse or consideration that we too were human with souls and the ability to relate and aptly function in this society. In this paper I will discuss how the Constitution allowed for freedoms and protection so that we as a people could advance to the highest position in the land. In the beginning the Constitution was considered a document that was pro-slavery. The word slave does not appear in the original document however, slavery received important protections in the Constitution.
When individuals work hard, it influences others to work hard. Working hard motivates others to also better themselves, and become more advanced in their respective field. This motivation leads to the betterment of society and advances us. It is not only important to advance in society but it is important to keep values. If we did not advance in society we could not improve many aspects of life, such as healthcare, technology, or economic standing.
