Odysseus understood that if he just wounded the Cyclops, himself and his men might the risk the chance of being stuck in there forever so instead he gets his men inspired to get the Cyclops drunk and hide underneath the bellies of his sheep. Odysseus is also smart when recognizing when and how he should trust his crewmen. He has a well tolerance for listening but learned quickly that his men do not. He also keeps secrets to which he shouldn’t because it would’ve stopped the crew men from opening the bag of wind but the fact that he was capable of keeping everyone alive, proves that Odysseus was intelligent, fair and fearless. He proved himself clever when he gave the Cyclops his name as Nohbdy so when the cyclop screamed “Nobody hurt me!” Odysseus and his men would remain harmless.
He shows responsibility through his willingness to keep everyone together as a team, and work together. He also shows responsibility when he calls meeting to decide on decisions all together. This proves that he is fair and democratic. He shows responsibility when he cares for the younger boys, which nobody really cared to pay attention to. He manages to get inside the palace with out his cover being blown. The only one that really knows who the beggar really is his son. He isn’t just raw power, his gracious hands and sharpshooters eye help nail down the suitors. All of these traits add up to be strengths because they all aid him in finishing his tasks.

At first Bean aggravates him and Ender decides to use the same strategy of isolation as they used on him in order to shape Bean into a great solider. Through all of the strategies he also begins to love and care for Bean which makes him push Bean even further and gives Bean the independence with giving him his own troop. Wiglaf knows of the many triumphs Beowulf endeavors, and sees it as an encouragement. If Beowulf was able to defeat, why couldn't Wiglaf. The fact that not all thanes could be as courageous and have so many heroic achievements for their countries and rulers is why Beowulf seems so ideal and extraordinary. Beowulf's many achievements told throughout the story gives him the appearance of the most faithful of thanes, who has climbed the social ladder not because he has meant to do so, but because he wishes to protect his country and others and give all the credit to its rulers. This sort of behavior gives him a kind and generous nature that can be traced to a kind of chivalry. Chivalry can also be considered a very important role in the creation of a thane's reputation and popularity. Through Beowulf's chivalry, generosity, friendship, and popularity, all of his kingdom and of others knew him for his heroism and loyalty.
An example of this would be when the only way for his journey to continue is through the path in which Scylla lies. If he were to tell his men then they would advice him not to go that way, however Odysseus goes that way to save the rest of his crew at the expense of 6 men, one for each of Scylla’s six heads.
