Madison strongly encouraged a strong central government. He knew that absence of unity between the states and the lack of federal power under The Articles of Confederation negatively affected the entire country. Madison made sure that the new constitution would force the states to work together for a common goal instead of doing things for only their own individual benefit. After the Constitution was ratified in 1788, Madison started working on the first amendments to the Constitution. This
Outline Although the founding of the Constitution was a revolutionary, positive turning-point in American history, the US Constitution has a few unconstitutional and democratic shortcomings. Introduction In order to understand the shortcomings of democracy of the US Constitution, is it is important to know the background of its’ founding and how each article serves our country. Federalist No. 10, written by James Madison, asserts the importance of having the image of a democracy without its real substance. There seems to have been a very strong opposition towards democracy at the Constitutional Convention, although the framers were in the midst of creating democratic principles to appeal to the majority of the country.
Disagreement to the ratification of the Constitution was partly based on the Constitution's need of satisfactory guarantees for civil liberties. To give such guarantees, the First Amendment was submitted to the states for ratification on September 25, 1789 and adopted on December 15, 1791. Without the First Amendment, religious minorities could be persecuted, the government might well establish a national religion, protesters could be silenced, the press could not criticize
So a chosen few were helped make this conceivable, the Founding Fathers. The principal Founding Father and furthermore known as our first President would be George Washington. Other than him being most fit for the main leader of the United States, there are such a significant number of more explanations behind his commitment to the Constitution. He had understanding from the Revolutionary War, and from that it persuaded Washington that over the top worries for states' rights and states purview would be deadly to a successful national government. He was at that point understanding that states' rights were essential which winds up noticeably crucial when choosing our new government for the United States.
The stark diffrences between the two parties lead the the demise of the Federalist Parties and the rise of the Democratic Republicans. The Federalist and the Democratic Republicans have many different views on how they believe the government should be and how it should be set up. The federalists lead by Alexander Hamilton believed that the United States should create the first national bank, to help fund the nations debt from the war and to establish a states government and not a central government , but the Democratic Republicans believed it was against the constitution to establish a national bank, the Democratic Republicans also believed that a strong central government should be established instead of a states government, and with this one currency instead of one for every state. The Federalists also believed that a protective Tariff should be put in place to shield infant industries, the Federalist also believed in commercial trade throughout the sea ports to other countries. The Democratic Republicans on the other hand believed that no special tariff should be put on the manufacturers, and didn't believe in commercial trade they believed in agriculture.
During the period from which the drafting of the federal Constitution in 1787 and the ratification in1789, Americans were involved in passionate debate on ratification. Though the Constitution is the supreme law of the United States, it lays the framework for the organization of the United States Government and its citizens. But some felt that the Constitution did not protect the individual rights of citizen well enough, this brought around the Bill of Rights. During this period, the Federalist and the Anti-Federalist, which were the two different factions in contention for power of the government had different ideas of what the Constitution, Bill of Rights and powers of government should be. Each party has their own beliefs on why or why not these documents should or should not be passed and what power is justified.
Magna Carta (Summary) The Magna Carta was written over 800 years ago in England. It was written due to defeats with the French. It was the first document that stated that men are free individuals. It states that it is up to us as to what we do with our lives unless the law states otherwise, such a murder. The Magna Carta explains the role of the government and what you can expect from them.
However, under the Articles, the national government was weak and states operated like independent countries. Furthermore, when the weaknesses surpassed the strengths, a Constitutional Convention was called in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. Under the leadership of George Washington, the current US Constitution was drafted during the convention. The Constitution had amended many of the weaknesses of the Articles, and many of the problems it had failed to address. Even though the changes proposed in the Constitution were essential to the survival of the nation, the Articles of Confederation also had some positive and effective measures.
Is the Constitution still Relevant? An ongoing argument over modern political and social issues centers on whether the U.S. Constitution is relevant in today’s world. With all the advancements in technology, communication, transportation, commerce, and in the medical field, some argue that the Founding Fathers could not have seen what would be necessary for the United States to stay the great nation that it already is, so I believe that the constitution is still relevant to a degree. For most, when forming the Constitution, the framers did not construct the constitution’s durability based on any advancement in technologies or society. They wrote the restrictive forces of the Constitution on something far more predictable, the meaning of freedom.
Federalists V. the Anti- Federalists After the American Revolution, the United States was free of British control and their first attempt at a formal government was a document titled: The Articles of Confederation. Many believed that under the Articles of Confederation enough power was not given to the central government, while many others believed that too much power was given to the state government. One result of the Articles of Confederation was that the Philadelphia Convention was called in the summer of 1787. The convention was originally called to help strengthen The Articles of Confederation, but it was later decided that a whole new constitution needed to be written. This is where the Constitution of the United States of America was born and with it came the opposing views of the Federalists and the anti-Federalists.
