There are always two sides: the good ones and the bad ones. Obviously it is not possible to define each one because there are different ways of setting a preference for who is the good or the bad. The Socs are the privileged kids from the Westside that as the word Soc means society, they have nice cars, they are rich and they live for bluffing. The Greasers are the unprivileged ones who live in the poor side and have to put up with the Soc’s attacks, in both moral and physical ways. A special detail to look at are the changes the protagonist undergoes during the novel which I think is one of the main purposes the author wants us to pay special attention to, since the entire plot is based on Pony’s feelings and expectation for his life.
Women are likely to expect much more than just help in house chores or career development from men. They consider small discussions with their partners as signs of intimacy, care and responsiveness. However, men have different mechanics of conversation and due to the hierarchical system in which they work; they do not like listening as that makes them feel like an inferior. Therefore, they consider this demand of females unreasonable. Most of the conversation patterns of men and women differ because of their social interaction as children.
Whilst there are clearly a variety of differences between the two theories of anomie and alienation it must also be noted that there are also some similarities to point out. Anomie can be defined simply as a state where norms or expectations on behaviours are confused, unclear or not present at all. Alienation however can be defined as a withdrawing or separation of a person of his affections from an object or position of former attachment. However, the above definitions clearly do not fully explain these two concepts. They are both very complex and in order to understand them fully as well as to be able to compare and contrast they need to be looked at in much greater detail.
Many research have been conducted to enquire into the cultural biasness in IQ testing which confirms of its thriving existence in the educational fraternity. Critics have argued that most of these tests are culturally biased. All may agree that we dwell in a culturally diverse world and no two cultures can be similar. One dictates the other, hence there is always unique differences amongst them. So the bigger question is whether IQ testing is fair in consideration of the vast differences amongst cultures.
The society portrayed in the novel, the chrysalids, and the film Gattaca, is judgemental and prejudice. The result in both cases is the same pain, suffering, and mistreatment of those who are different. In both the chrysalids and Gattoca, the community that is illustrated seem to have their own “true image”, and for many reasons are narrow minded to the people that are distinctive. Members of the society will go through anything to hide their “differences”, wither it’s to be in hiding or to be someone else. The movie Gattoca, relates to the novel in ways that are outlined in following statements.
Our immediate impression of both the main characters, Emma and Cher is that they are spoiled, high class snobs. In the aspects of there immediate impressions they are extremely similar though we are able to see the differences and similarities of the type of spoiled high class snobs they are. These differences are due to the different times. The values of time have changed. The activities which each character takes part in are different due to the different times.
She tells him, ‘all Socs aren’t like that’. Hinton portrays through the quote that everyone is not that much different from each other. It is just the social status and reputation that they assume things of each other and keep a distance because of the wall between. Valance tries to tell Curtis that not all Socs beat up greasers or anybody else without intending to. Cherry Valance points out the differences between a Soc and a Greaser to Ponyboy.
The different cultures and races are becoming more predominant than ever, but people still tend to be judgmental towards them. Lofland states that people tend to classify people by their appearance and not by the character of each individual. With the above statement being accurate, people of different races and cultures have to deal with the outside world being unfairly judgmental and tend to close themselves
In The Outsiders, it's socs, the rich kids, against the greasers, the poor kids. Yes, the greasers may have greasy hair, ratty clothes and not a lot of money, but that doesn't make them different from anyone else on the inside. Well, that's not what the socs think. They believe they're better, because they all have girlfriends, nice mustangs and they're rich. Both the socs and the greasers can agree that the town of Tulsa is divided between the two groups: one group on the east side and the other group on the west side.
Men and women are different in many ways. We see the world through completely different perspectives. It is important to remember that men and women have reciprocally different natures. Men and women need to appreciate these differences, and cease expecting each other to act and feel the way they do. So yes both women and men do communicate differently.
