As people we will sometimes go to great lengths to not be considered a freeloader or moocher. The rules possess’ strength and it often produces a yes response to requests. The reason that the rule is so strong is because it stands out to people on how someone is as a person. From time to time as people we get too caught up in what others think of us so we take the rule and use it as a stepping stone so people think higher of us. This usually affects the decision to act in accordance with with the rule.
In the public services, these types of leaderships will be used within different circumstances, authoritarian is best in urgent situations but laissez-faire is better for those who are experts and know exactly what they are doing and don't depend on a leader, they are similar because they both focus on the task in hand but one is directed every step by a demanding leader, sometimes, authoritarian could be bad style to use as it could make the other team members feel under pressure and lack motivation but leading in a laissez-faire manner will make the members feel more important because they have freedom to work the way they feel best. If there was to be a car accident, authoritarian would be a better approach because whether it was ambulance, police or fire, they will need to get the victims to hospital and road cleared as quickly as possible but it'd take longer if the team didn't know what their roles were and what they were
Reward power is power used to give employees things they want or take away things they do not want such as giving a raise or promotion. This type of power is effective, but can lose its effectiveness as time goes by. After a while the reward may not carry the same weight anymore. Legitimate power is power used when the collective group believes the person in charge has the right to give the orders. Legitimate power is effective because employees will generally take orders from the management without question.
It is difficult to hold prosecutors accountable for acts of misconduct. Since prosecutors are often viewed as the “good guys” by the public, many times unethical, as well as illegal acts will be tolerated by the courts and criminal justice system as a whole. Prosecutorial misconduct is considered any action taken by the prosecutor in a criminal case that is against the law and/or unethical. Prosecutorial evidence can be anything from harassing witnesses on the stand, pressing unfounded charges against defendants, tampering with evidence, withholding evidence, up to taking bribes. Prosecutors can sometimes get away with misconduct as it is extremely difficult to prove that misconduct had actually taken place.
Perhaps more so than Emotivists, Prescriptivists see ethical language as fairly meaningful. They believe that the terms used are able to create absolute rules that everyone ought to follow. It would seem that ethical language is seen by many as very meaningful, although for varying reasons. However agent centred theories such as Virtue Ethics would argue that our main focus of morality should be on becoming as virtuous as possible, rather than deciding what is meant by ethical language. Therefore it would seem that perhaps morality should be more focussed on individuals’ actions rather then defining what is meant by ‘good’ and
Sometimes this style is also described as autocratic. It is a common leadership style and is used when a leader needs to keep as much power as possible and keep control over the decision making. Subordinates are expected to obey orders without arguing back or in need of an explanation to do what they have been ordered to do. In the public services this leadership maybe used when you have all the information to solve the problem or you are working to a deadline. This is not an effective way to get the best result from a team, but it has some advantages in situations where there is pressure to get the task done, like in the armed forces.
OUTLINE AND EVALUATE ONE OR MORE EXPLANATIONS OF WHY PEOPLE OBEY. (12 MARKS) One reason people obey is because legitimate social power is held by authority figures whose role is defined by power held by society or the situation, for example police officers. This usually gives them the right to exert control over the behaviour of others, and others usually accept it. We feel obliged to obey these people because we respect their credentials and assume they are correct in what they are doing. A strength of legitimate authority being an explanation for obedience is that there is supporting evidence from Milgram’s study.
The contradictions themselves on a grand scale serve to keep the people within their control, being told one thing that does not make sense with another thing previously told but still believing. Other contradictions are the remainder of the philosophy, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength. The people are told they are free, and that they must work to maintain their freedom, which makes the people enslaved to the government. And; by keeping the people ignorant of this, the government is able to retain its strength. According to the book, Doublethink is being able to have these two contradictory ideas at the same time.
Context: Power and Authority Essay: People obey authority out of respect, while they obey power out of fear.” Introduction 1. Power and authority are interpreted in many different ways. Authority is respected and recognized, where as power is used to exploit and manipulate situations simply to gain control or sway judgments. In some scenarios, power and authority are essentially indistinguishable, in others; one is taken advantage of by the other to dominate. E.g.
Sometimes people feel the defendant has too many rights and has more benefits, which could help them get away with criminal activity. All these points are valid, but they are forgetting about the rights of people and what they stand for. I would think people would want defendants to be punished fairly and not have an opening, where they could possible get their case dropped because of something illegal done on the prosecution or law enforcement
