Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as "Dr. Death", believed in assisted suicide. He believed that, with the consent of the patient, he was able to relieve the patient of their long time painful suffering. A 54 year old female from Portland, Ore., by the name of Janet Adkins was Dr. Kevorkian's first patient, or as some will say, his first victim. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease. After going through experimental drug treatment, which were unsuccessful, Mrs. Adkins decided to contact Dr. Kevorkian.
Explore the ways Curley and Curley’s wife are presented in the novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ Curley and his wife are minor characters in the novel, however their presence in the novel has a far-reaching effect on the other characters and also the reader. The novel is set during the Great Depression in the 1920’s/30’s when racism, migrant workers and the American Dream were at their peak. The author, John Steinbeck, lived through these times and was a native of California where the story is set. In the passage where Steinbeck first introduces Curley’s wife, he uses many technical skills to show what Curley’s wife was like. He uses symbolism when she is first introduced; “Both men glanced up, for the rectangle of light was cut off.” The reference to the light can suggest that she cuts off the light because she is a negative character, and/or she takes away anything, which is good.

Psychosocial Assessment of the Well Elderly Through the duration of this assignment, my older adult will be identified as E.M. for confidentiality purposes. Part A: Planning I chose my older adult for this assignment on the basis that the individual was sixty-five years of age or older, living independently, and that I did not know them very well. Since I did not know of anyone that met this criteria, I decided to travel to Collingwood, ON to conduct the interview with my boyfriend’s grandmother E.M. I called her before my reading week break and asked E.M if I could interview her for my well elderly assignment. Together, we arranged a date that would mutually suit both of us, and I gathered my papers and made some questions up for the assignment.

I enjoyed reading “Born on the Fourth of July”. My sister recommended it and it turned out to be quite alright, but what I found most influential was how Kovic’s book rationalizes the war problem. He raises concerns about veterans left voiceless following service and about the government’s failure to adequately provide for them. The title of Kovic’s book shows the connection between himself and America, because his birthday is on July fourth, the nations’ day of independence. Kovic emphasizes throughout the book the damage done to his body, which ultimately parallels his belief in the structure of America.

Although rumors circulated that the couple spent more time apart than together, they were still married when Onassis died in 1975. After the death of her second husband Jackie never re-married but moved to New York City, where she worked as a book editor from 1978 until the day of her death in 1994 of lymphatic cancer. At her funeral, her son “John, John” as he was called, spoke of his mother as a valiant and amazing woman. And she was; she was an extraordinary woman whose courage and determination during the death of her husband was not only surprising but admiring. She left an impression on the 1960’s era as a style

The result is his new book, Gang Leader for a Day. "This is the thing that surprised me the most," Venkatesh says. "I thought I was coming in there to be the expert and I ended up being humbled practically every day." Although Venkatesh is the author of two earlier works, American Project and Off the Books, many readers first encountered him in the bestseller Freakonomics, where his research forms the backbone of the chapter "Why Do Drug Dealers Still Live with Their Moms?" "Sudhir Venkatesh was born with two abnormalities," says Freakonomics co-author Stephen Dubner, "an overdeveloped curiosity and an underdeveloped sense of fear."
