Indians did not want to own domestic animals since livestock husbandry did not fit easily with native practices, the adoption of livestock would alter women’s lives by affecting the traditional division of labor since women were mainly responsible of agriculture production. And the settlers free ranging livestock (mostly pigs and hogs) were feasting on their corn farms. Animal husbandry also challenged native beliefs and practices, since their mental universe assumed no distinction between human and animal being. Instead of recognizing the incompatibility of English and Indian subsystem regimes, colonial authorities permitted joint use of land, which was doomed to fail by the problems that arose from livestock on hunting lands. In 1640 Massachusetts law required settlers to help their fellow Indian neighbors, but this friendly gesture was coupled with stern provisos.
Bad because if they go extinct, some animals would be without a food source. I believe there should be controlled harvesting. There shouldn’t be people out 24/7 harvesting all the harvesting krill as much as they wish to. Taking away one animals has an effect on more animals then people
When cattle or any type of livestock overgraze it causes them to compact the soil which makes it harder for soils to receive water or be aerated, and it also doesn’t allow for the plants roots to expand. This all affects the soil because it will eventually end up causing soil erosion which will lead to even more erosion. The effects that overgrazing have on soil are so bad because it disrupts the whole balance of the certain type of ecosystem that you are in. By having all these effects on the plants and soil around the ecosystem it doesn’t allow nature to return that ecosystem back to its original state and eventually will cause it to make everything worse. Now there are ways that people have been able to have grazing livestock without destroying the environment.
Due to animals consuming more grass than can be produce, the ground becomes scattered leaving the soil exposed to erosion. The NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Services) has a program to help prevent overgrazing. The program “provides information and support to enable ranchers who own their lands to burn unwanted woody plants, reseed the land with perennial grass varieties that hold water, and manage cattle so that herds are moved to a new location before overgrazing occurs” (Wright & Boorse, 2011, p. 288). If this problem is left untreated, could be a threat to the food chain. Deforestation is when trees and other vegetation is being removed converting the forest to another land use, this exposed the soil and often leads to erosion and loss of soil fertility.
In this research study, Dr. Gradin also reaffirmed that animals are naturally inquisitive. When pens are designed so they are circular, livestock will move forward to see what is ahead, but when animals move naturally based upon their own instinct, this virtually eliminates the need to drive livestock. The AMI reports also showed that high numbers of studies indicate that animals that are calm and unstressed when they are processed produce better meat products for human consumption. For instance, if an animal becomes agitated in a plant, stress hormones like adrenalin are released. If an animal is processed in this high stress state, meat will show quality defects that need to be cut down.
www.new-harvest.org This website gave me information on meat alternatives. This website also informed me about the public health and the damage factory farms do to the environment. www.fooddialogues.com This website gave me more information about factory farming. It also showed me articles posted by people who have seen the farms first hand and images of the farms.
In my opinion, Snowball is a much better leader than Napoleon as he has foresight, puts benefits of the farm before his own, Snowball is also innovative. However, on the other hand, Napoleon lacks foresight and is only interested in short term gains; he is selfish and lacks originality. Snowball is more of a visionary with a long-term view. This is supported by the fact that he advocated the building of the windmill, which would provide electricity, warmth and comfort for all the animals, but the animals had to sacrifice a portion of their food for a while as the building of the windmill would take priority over food production. Snowball also saw that Animal Farm would always be under siege, due to the fact that it was the only farm run by animals.
The smaller laws affect us like an ecosystem is affect by the extinction of a small species. The idea people continuously fail to understand is that these somewhat small laws are there to protect from the major laws that can be caused by them if everyone is doing
It takes man’s progress in the world to the next logical step. The idealogy of sustainable development has been lost. In the film there are shots of street dwellers throwing around plants of some kind. This lack of care symbolises that not only is nature not appreciated like today’s society, but also that it has no place in a society specifically shaped and tweened around the needs of consumerism. As Tyrell says in the movie “Commerce is our goal.” Animals, too seem to be scarce as genetic replicants are made up and are less valued than the actual animal.
Second, endangered species protection has been bolstered in recent years by a focus on habitat preservation that depends on the will and cooperation of understanding, educated individual landowners. Land preservation sounds like it is too complex for one person to undertake, as if it might be some complex issue, but it is really very simple. An individual landowner must recognize the ecological value of a piece of property and step up to preserve it. Finally, another environmental issue that depends on the individual is reducing the carbon output of livestock. Corporations may claim that they can do this by feeding well-bred cows better grass and grain, but the reduction in herds that will result from eating less meat is really the only
