In this essay I will be talking about how children are affected by television. Although many parents these days do not want their children to watch television, there are a lot of educational shows available today. Many parents may not want their children to watch modern television, and I would have to tell those parents that there are some shows out there these days that are very educational and they are aimed towards the young. Watching the educational cartoons can be very helpful for a child’s mind. There can be positive results emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
Around ninety-nine percent of families in America own a television, which means they watch TV a little bit each day. So Steven Johnson is writing to a very big audience and tries to persuade to them that watching TV makes you smarter. He starts out his article with a conversation of two scientists from the Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper. The script was supposed to be an opening joke because in the movie all the food that is supposed to be bad for you, turned out to be good for you in the future. The central claim of Steven Johnson’s article would be that watching TV makes you smarter.
People are said to have positive reactions toward television. As a person watches television, he or she can interact with what is happening. Whether it is happiness or sadness, a person will not be affected by television; he or she will understand the values of each show. In “A Moral Never-Never Land: Identifying with Tony Soprano,” James Harold indicates that television helps a person compare problems and emotions on a show. Television makes people look deep inside and think about the notions of good and evil.
When it comes to the topic of shows like Family Guy, most of would agree that it’s funny, insightful, witty and intentionally crude. Being from a generation where shows like this have taken over most television stations, the argument over Family Guy is particularly over is if someone likes it or not, if the jokes are to mean or deviously hilarious, or what to take home from each episode. People not fond of this show, now, generally have seen too much of it, think the jokes aren’t funny, or maybe the type of humor they find entertaining is not a part of this program. Now as an adult, the distinctions can be made where the jokes are aimed, if they are too offensive and what should or should not be taken seriously. What are important to consider about programs like this are, what messages adolescents are receiving from these types of television shows and how much is at face value.
Visual entertainment has shaped American culture and its value, it has changed the way we communicate with each other. Since 1950’s there have been televisions in homes, people were able to watch their favorite shows, and catch up on the world through the news. Soon after that cell phone came into place. People no longer see the value in communicating with each other face to face. Some would rather create a virtual living life and would “live there”.
Some say it has changed for the worst; that it is a bad influence on others choices, whereas others say it still has the same typical concept. They fail to realize that reality television is simply just a documentary of people’s lives. Whether they choose to take each other’s heads off or make love to their best friends’ boyfriend, it will not have a negative effect on people’s life decisions or choices. When people think about Reality TV they begin to picture a group of people arguing and punching each other out simply because that is what reality TV has become today. For some reason the bickering and fighting on these shows tends to attract a large audience.
Imagine a kid solving a puzzle -which will help to develop his brain- instead of watching TV; also this kind of activities will keep him safe from violence. Ratings: I have seen a TV channel specifying violence ratings, I cannot recall the channel but every time I see it has violence on it I change the channel. We shouldn’t have to watch a program to see if it is violent. Sometime we start watching a program just to see if it appropriate or not to watch and then we realized that even it has violence we watched the entire TV show I think ratings will work just
“Most adults, has some concerns for their children watching those shows. They had a thought that they might influence their kids to do some bad things in life because of the violence in the shows”(Feinstein 2). But that was not the only thing that they might have thought would influence their kids, “comedians were now on television too, and it was big for them because they could say stuff they could not say on the radio” (Adam 2). That did not top their daughters and sons from watching television; it is not like they could watch it all the time. Plus, there were only a few
In most TV shows they do this for viewing purposes because no one wants to watch the machine run for a long time but by cutting time out they make it seem a lot more interesting to the regular person whose sitting at home watching the show. Both things that the shows do posses if the idea that these can be real police cases throughout the country just over done for the sake of making money for parent company CBS. In TV shows you can simply show an object to show the audience what you are talking about but in texts it is a lot
Family is a big part of life and I am glad that they show so many scenes that go through family ties and struggles. I truly think that this tv show impacts society making these families seem normal when in reality they shouldn't be. The Bible talks about how a family should be one man and one woman like Adam and Eve. This show depicts gays as a normal thing, where it is not completely normal yet. This assignment changes the way I consume media because sometimes what you consume over the television is wrong and it has hidden meanings or doesn't make sense i real
