In today’s modern and fast paced society, teenagers have had to rush through life and begin adulthood earlier than the generations before. Many teens have also been expected to make this step in life without the help of a parent or mature adult, because they are too busy with their own lives. The media has replaced parents’ jobs of teaching their children about life, and the media surrounds teens with mature themes which affect teenagers in a negative way. Many teenagers have lost a section of their lives by having to skip to adulthood where they are unprotected from many negative parts of this world. I agree with David Elkind that “teenagers have lost their privileged position” and that unlike generations of teenagers before, this generation
As this awareness comes forth, it shows that life is not always easy, it is complicated and there will be tough moral decisions that have to be made. Holden Caulfield the main character of Catcher in the Rye wants to preserve innocence so he dedicates his life to protecting childhood innocence. In Chapter two Mr. Spencer tells Holden, “Life is game that one plays according to the rules”. Holden does not believe that life is a game he believes that life is dictated by adults. These adults are phony and cruel and he does not want to follow their rules.
I didn't like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him." Clearly, these are not the actions a normal 15- year old boy would undertake in the presence of a figure of authority such as a police officer. Yet, a young boy may feel this way and take these same actions because his innocence shelters the boy from knowing the difference between a police officer and any other man, or from knowing whether these actions are wrong or right. The innocent mind truly has no filter, and it is completely up to the parents to reinforce the idea of what is wrong, and what is right.
In the event that his expectations are met, the person is required to remain that way. If they change in the slightest way they become "phony" to him and he no longer need them. His fear of change is what prevents him from making friends and growing up. ~This quote has a deeper meaning than just catching some kid before they fall off a cliff. Holden wants to save kids before they lose their immature nature.
Troy’s inability to accept change and even his inability to see the change the world is undergoing directly hurts his relationship with not only Cory, but also indirectly impairs his ability to understand his own wife. After Cory learns that Troy will not allow him to play football, he accuses his dad that the reason he won’t let him play football is, “cause you didn’t have a chance! You just scared I’m gonna be better than you, that’s all” (58). Although Troy does not flat out say he is afraid of Cory surpassing him, in all the cases where Troy explains his reasons in not letting Cory play football, he always underlines his resentment towards sports because of the injustice sports had given him in his own life. This clearly expresses that because of his own experience with injustice, Troy is involuntarily jealous of the opportunity Cory is receiving through his scholarship which results in his action of not allowing Cory to participate in sports.
As adolescents start to gain independence, understand relationships that work and do not work make it hard for parents to let them grow, but as the adolescent sees it, parents are trying to keep them from self-expression and trying to figure out how they fit into the world around them (Bass, 2009). Media does not help adolescents acknowledge success since the media portrays physical appearance as perfection and possessions as riches causing complicated issues among adolescents (Bass, 2009). As an adult we have all gone through angry days as a teen, but the one thing the author Lyman Bass (2009) explains in the article “Adolescent Anger Management” there are signs that are beyond usual. These signs are when adolescents become defiant by the request of others, is mean to parents and other adults who hold some authority. Another signs are adolescents who are loners, depressed, trouble with expressing emotions, have few friends, and certain events trigger them into violent behaviors.
The reason that the troubled child acts so malevolently is because he wants attention and is afraid of being betrayed or left by someone he loves or deeply cares for. In this self-fulfilling prophecy, Jonathan tries to push people away by saying absurd things, “I am a lunatic” (15). By doing o, the troubled soul does not have a deep connection with anyone. If the boy has a deep connection, there is the possibility of losing that person. John also wants to have good friends and have a sense of what it feels like for someone to care for him.
Teenagers went from feeling like they were being trapped by their parents to a new independent feeling of freedom. No longer did they feel like they “had’ to follow in their parents footsteps. Because this was a new experience for many parents, they thought their children were doomed and their futures hopeless. Parents did not consider that this new independent freedom could be a phase and that once their teens reached adulthood it would be over. The many new fashions trends, activities and most importantly the legendary Rock N’ Roll music Wilson 4 became a direct reflection of the creations established by the rebellious 1950 teenager.
Will strive for unreasonable independence ,anger is common will resent being told what to do,rebels routine Boys will resist any show of affection . will will draw from parents think they are old fashioned . Moral development. Is clearly acquiring and conscience is aware of right and wrong will have a strong sense of justice and moral code . Is concerned about fair treatment of others .
They have a better way of dealing with certain situations. Their parents have taught them this. If a teenager is in care, this can be different because they haven’t been taught to deal with their emotions very well; there has been no one there to help them get through so they still act younger than they are. Emotionally, nature tells us that almost every teenager will have a rise in sexual hormones causing emotions to rocket and this cannot be help or affected by anything that may have happened to them. Socially, their friends are different.
