He worked so hard at convincing himself that he could recreate the past that he actually believed it could happen in his own mind. He hated his life as a kid because of the fact that he wasn’t rich. To Gatsby, the reason Daisy never married him was because he wasn’t wealthy, like Tom was. This triggered Gatsby to have a life goal. This life goal was everything he worked for, his entire life revolved around doing anything he can to become rich, and once he was rich then he would once again capture Daisy’s love for him again and they would get married back in Louisville at Daisy’s old house.
He realises that his family and the people who were part of his journey cared for him but he rejects their love and goes to live alone. However, at the end he realises his arrogance and that 'happiness is only real when shared'. Overall, the Director, Sean Penn portrays Chris as a very complex character as he has both positive and negative sides to him. His compassion for those he met and who helped him along his journey showed how he can care about people and this a very positive reaction. His arrogance towards his family has a negative reaction but he realises that he can't be alone in the world at the end.
As illustrated in Out of this Furnace, proper operation of the blast furnaces was an impending life or death matter. Unfortunately, for the characters of Kracha’s best friend, Dubik, and Mike, their livelihood depended on the factory and the factory ultimately ended their life as well. “Dubik died two days after a blast furnace explosion blind and unconscious,” (pg.53). The explosion was later deemed an “accident”; however, Kracha explained, “In a larger sense, it was the result of greed, and part of the education of the American steel industry” (pg. 54).
First of all, Victor is very materialistic in that he just wants to receive, but giving. At the beginning of the story, even though losing the job before, Victor still returns to his old job to ask for money to bring his father back from Phoenix. After failing to have enough the amount of money he wants, Victor takes advantages from Thomas to have the rest of the amount of money he wants. Although Victor has received some money from his father’s bank account, which he cares more than his father, he does not give back anything to Thomas. When Victor and Thomas come to the trailer where people find Victor’s father, the first thing comes to Victor’s mind is there might be something valuable in there and where his father’ money is.

Really, I think he was just plain crazy.” Callaman is trying to say that McCandless’ journey was pointless and stupid. I understand why he has that view of things but I still think he doesn’t completely understand and has yet to “be in McCandless’ shoes”. “He intended to invent an utterly new life for himself…to symbolize the complete severance from his previous life…” McCandless’ intentions were clear to him and he made it clear for others to see that he wanted to start over.
E.M Forester describes a flat character as “The really flat character can be expressed in one sentence…” Royal Tenenbaum’s in one sentence is “he is very deceitful.” He begins the story as being a flat character his entire life, but when forced onto the streets, his manipulative nature turns against him; creating the beginning of his transformation. He is shown as a man who has always put himself before all others, including his family. Royal seems unable to grasp the idea that his irresponsible and selfish lifestyle has driven a wedge between him and his family that cannot be undone by a simple apology. The main goal of Royal however, is not to make amends to his family, but to have a roof over his head. The story begins with Royal being kicked out of his hotel room and having nowhere else to go, hatches a plan to gain entry into his old apartment by saying he has cancer.
My father started out a great salesman, with dreams and goals. He always told Happy and I how to improve our lives and become successful, constantly referencing his brother Ben, who had walked into a jungle and came out rich. In some ways, you could see that he greatly missed Ben; not as a brother, but as a person to look up to who has achieved their dreams. It scares me to think that Willy would switch his life for something better if the opportunity arose even if it meant leaving us behind. You could tell that Willy’s priorities seemed to have shifted out of place as the years went on.
Doing all of this actually wasn't worth it. We were only paid minimum wage of $5.15 an hour. To top it off, we have rude managers that didn’t know how to treat their co-workers right. I dropped a pile of napkins on the floor one day and one of the mangers simply scolded me and said; "can't you be a bit more careful?” Then this other day as I was putting away merchandise, I accidentally dropped it and then angrily my manager yelled; "pay attention to what you’re doing!" In the reading the Hunger Artist appears to be a complex character because the reason of why he staves himself is never brought to the audience until the very end of the story. As misunderstood as the artist is, he seems to enjoy the life of being the “circus freak.” His love for his talent is described, “he lived for many years, with small regular intervals of recuperation, in visible glory, honored by the world, yet in spite of the troubled in spirit, and all the trouble because no one would take is trouble seriously ( A Hunger Artist 272).” This quote displays the double edge sword of his fame that is honored for its extreme effect it has one the body and unique style, but the artist is still not understood why he continues with this. The audience continues throughout the story to remain incomprehensive with the actions of the hunger artist. The audience has specific role in the story as the nutrients of the artist because there ability to keep the Hunger Artist to keep continuing his actions in this sickly state. The artist self-denial leads him in another type of nourishment which is symbolized as the public.
Although O’Brien is unclear about whether or not he actually threw a grenade and killed a man outside My Khe, his memory of the man’s corpse is strong and recurring, symbolizing humanity’s guilt over war’s horrible acts. Norman was right on the side of him when he died, after about a couple of years passed by after the war he was in Kiowa home town he started crying because he didn’t do anything to try to save him. In Fallen Angels Richie see’s how almost his whole team died he and Peewee were the only ones that survived, which emphasizes the theme of youth and innocence. In calling the novel Fallen Angels, the author implies that the soldiers’ youth and innocence are more important than any of their other aspects, such as their religion, ethnicity, class, or race. They wanted them to know what war is really like and wants to help them understand what is experienced.
