In my own opinion this causes many issues which can lead people to do immoral things and commit bad crimes, and be able to justify their actions by stating it was already determined for them to do it. With this idea you can’t be praised for doing good things or punished for doing bad as we did not choose to preform or commit these actions. Ted Honderich was a hard determinist and said all our choices, intentions and our actions are nothing more than effects from other past events that have already happened. David Hume would criticise this he argues against hard determinism and says we do have free will and moral responsibility, we are responsible for all our moral and non-moral actions regardless of whether they could have been determined by our past choices or values. John Hospers also thought all things were determined.
Slavery and Racism in Early American History Freedom is flawed. Truthfully, total freedom is impossible to achieve in this world, since the chains that bind humans disable us from truly living freely. With the constant stresses of simply living or being confined to the laws of the land, our freedom is suppressed. Since every human being falls under being constrained, however, we should all share the burden equally. In past history, enslavement of another was usually the result of an unpaid debt, the spoils of a victorious war, or the consequences of a crime.
Without consent or someone’s freewill to do so, any form of sexual intimacy is considered assault or rape. An individual should always have the right to their own choices and actions. Any form of rape, including date rape, is said to have nothing to do with “love or passion, but is simply an act of aggression and violence.” Date rape is often motivated by the search for power or control and is often fueled by a need to command the situation. The risk of date rape is open to any individual, however, certain people tend to be more susceptible to rape or sexual assault than
Offenders who are convicted of sex crimes are often considered some of the most dangerous to society, thus deemed in need of constant monitoring and surveillance when in the community. When dealing with issues regarding invasion of privacy, such as surveillance of sex offenders, it is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of implementing such a tactic. Although surveillance may not be beneficial in all scenarios, in relation to sex offenders, it is in the best interest of society to perform such a method. The term “sex offender” may generally be categorized in a variation of ways among society. For scholars Simon Cole and Jonathon Simon, the term “sex
Bullying can be further resisted through further evasion, through covert retaliatory bullying and through overt bullying (if all else fails). Then bullying on each side can escalate to threats of violence and actual violence as is sadly too often the case in domestic and mainstream psychiatric situations. And, even the confronter can get sucked into using evasion tactics when more direct communication is rendered useless by endless evasion upon evasion. Evasion can be aware or unaware, and it’s unaware evasion that can be the most problematic because attempts by a confronter to expose that evasion are likely to result in unaware denial and unaware delusion. Then, in this situation, if the confrontation is stepped up and/or is supplemented by intimidation or bullying, then the unaware denial and delusion can become ever more entrenched creating a vicious circle of determined force meeting eternally stubborn obstacle.
This novel touches on many issues such as the ambiguity of enslavement, class, gender relations, and the impact of western influence. The ambiguity of enslavement was at the forefront and a recurring issue in this novel. Within the African culture, it was customary for a man to marry or have sexual relations with more than one woman. Wives and slaves alike were expected to grant any request that was made by the male in the household. Even women who were freeborn could not choose their husbands because that decision was left for her family to make.
Vaark is not the typical ghastly slave owner, “he’s a benevolent patriarch who gives safety to a cast of women who would have no security elsewhere” (Charles). Ultimately, slavery its self overpowers the self worth that they have for themselves and affects them mentally. In Beloved, the protagonist Sethe is also affected mentally by slavery. Though she is now free, the horrible things that she went through while she was enslaved still haunt her. The things that Sethe experienced made her feel less of a human and caused her to be filled with self-loathing.
The sentence to be fair involves taking those things into account. But inevitably there is criticism. It is hard to get media coverage of the circumstances of the accused. The public does not want to know. The public is hard.” From that it can be seen that the public is bias towards the circumstances of the supposed victim and wants the accused punished without any regard to their situation.
Meanwhile, It is necessary for us to rebel against unjust laws that may potentially exert a detrimental influence on social well-being, and to seek changes for the betterment of laws. However, there has no a universal standard to evaluate the farness of laws. Whether the law is just or unjust depends on one’s personal interests and value system. Towards the same law, one may see this clause to be dubious while the other sees it perfectly making sense .For instance, "abortion", "euthanasia" are the central of violent controversy, some regard them are unjustifiable as against basic human right; thereby forbidding by laws. Ironically, some hold the view that they are acceptable as people can choose their lifestyle freely.
Encounters that constitute sexual harassment include those where sexual advances, verbal or physical, either creates a hostile work environment, consequently interfering with a person’s performance, or any instance of unwelcomed sexual advances constituting abuse of power thereby any lack of submission may lead to retaliation by the offender (Strong p. 588-589). If the situation in question ultimately creates an unreasonably intimidating work environment, even if the victim doesn’t file suit against their aggressor, any person affected by the circumstances is entitled to do so (Strong p. 589). Keep in mind that sexual aggression, coercing another person, man or woman, against their will to succumb to any form of sexual activity through the use of force or clout, does not need to occur for this behavior to be deemed illegal (Strong p. 601). “As with all harassment, these apply to male-female, male-male, and female-female interactions” including gay men and lesbian women (Strong pp. 590, 601).
