By using these words she can relate to both the American and Latino audiences, while also showing her knowledge of the Spanish language. This relates to the subject because she was raised as an American, but wants to be accepted by the Latino culture. During Tanya’s childhood education she learned how to be an American, but she did not learn how to be a Latina. She learned how to read, write, and speak English, but she did not learn the Spanish culture. This was both good and bad for her.
She then said “When it is ready I will give you some from my plate and if you like it I’ll serve you some for yourself. I told you it was like menudo, but I dint say that it tasted like it.” I was back to step one not knowing anything about the taste of pozole was driving me crazy. The smell was delicious but not everything that smells good tastes good. I kept wondering about how pozole tasted like. Was it spicy?
Article Review After reading “If You eat Their Food…”: Diets and Bodies in Early Colonial Spanish America, by Rebecca Earle, I was left with the impression that early Spanish settlers were very ignorant of any civilization or race outside of their own. I realize that the early Spanish might not have had much contact with different races or civilizations other than their own, but one would think that they would at least assume that no matter what food a person consumes, or the region one lives in cannot physically change your race. In defense of the Spanish I can understand why they were shocked at first when they discovered the Amerindians, because they differed from the Spanish in almost every way. When the Spanish first arrived they noted that the Amerindians were very timid, dark skinned, had straight hair, and lacked beards, which was very confusing to the Spanish because they prided themselves on their beards. In the article it states that the Amerindians also suffered from less stomach sicknesses, rarely went bald, and rarely developed gallstones.
Our food like mococo, fufu, mofongo, and fried juca were food that slaves made and us Mexicans use. Personally me, I’ve never eaten these food, but according to the film their traditional Mexican plates. The Memin Pinguin stamp apparently was really offensive in the United States with African Americans, but for the Mexicans it really wasn’t. I agree with the journalist in the film. Mexicans were not offended because they did not relate to it or took it offensively.

If I Could Live My Life Over… Even though I’m just a sophomore in High School, there is a lot in life I wish I could do over. Like the way I treated people, some things I’ve done, people I trusted and the things I’ve said. Although if I were to redo any of those things, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Through all my mistakes and lessons learned, I’ve really come to like the person I am today. A lot of people in the world don’t like who they are or what they’ve become for many reasons such as: looks, weight, personality, family, job, etc.
His argument has a lot of people from different backgrounds and perspectives reading it. To start, the title, “What’s Wrong With Vocational School?” offers a different perspective in and of itself; for many traditional American middle-class families, vocational school is simply never considered. In some way, this makes his bold writing style more impressive because of the potential risk he is taking. The supposed risk, however, is in the perspective of each reader. If one views it as Murray’s support of the less talented, or less affluent, then he seems very democratic and generous.
Lauren Benzing Ms. Nielsen English 9 6 November 2009 Year-Round Schooling: A Beneficial Opportunity Students, do you often feel bored at the end of summer? Do you hate forgetting material you have previously learned? Teachers, isn't it frustrating to have to waste precious class time re-teaching and reviewing things that students have already learned, but forgot? Year-round school would be a simple, yet beneficial solution to these problems. For many reasons, a year-round school schedule would be a great leap forward for the education systems of America, which are lacking compared to European and Asian ones (Holland).
How do they do it? Most of the time they don't really understand the material in the class, but somehow manage to pass with good grades. There are many downsides to what Bruno describes as being “cheated in the long run." He mentioned that although the students have remembered all the facts they don't really achieve any additional intelligence. He brought up a good point that a lot of people wouldn't have thought of in terms of a student’s education.
Numerous obstacles must be achieved in order to earn freedom, and even in that case, full freedom may never be fully achieved. Most people in society have a clear image of what children will be like and a certain approach that must be taken in order to have the ‘ideal’ child. With many cases, the tight rein of the adults on their child becomes looser as the child moves out or graduates high school, rather than when the particular individual has made enough life mistakes to earn their freedom. In the short story, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a polar-opposite life-experience is that of Benjamin Button. Kelly 2 In the exclusive case of Benjamin Button – the man born old and aging backwards – he already has philosophical knowledge of the world and the skills of an old man in the first days of his life.
