Why immigrants should report maltreatment to the authorities Maltreatment against immigrants is an act that the authorities and the law should pay more attention to. Immigrants are human beings as well as United States citizens and have families which they support, so they must report maltreatment. The purpose of this paper is to persuade immigrants to report maltreatment from authorities. Consequently, I will explain three reasons why immigrants should report maltreatment such as abuse or beating from an immigrant officer. Abuse can cause physical and internal problems; which can lead a person to have long lasting effects even into adulthood.
The Effects of Felony Convictions RaShawnda Anderson Kaplan University The Effects of Felony Convictions The effects of felony convictions are a very hot topic in America. This is because there are many Americans that commit crimes and are punished yet still deal with the effects for years to come. Felons are a part of society and should be treated as such especially if they are reformed. A person can commit a crime that results in a felony and twenty years later still suffer the harsh reality of certain privileges being taken away. Yes, an individual should be punished for their crimes but the effects of a felony conviction should not include or affect that person’s right to vote, finding employment, or the pursuance of a higher education.
Double Jeopardy Aissata Sy Kaplan University Double Jeopardy Many of the amendments concern individuals’ right and liberties. Under many of the amendments we as the people are protected from the government. Who know what it would be for us, if the government have all the power to control our lives and they can use power however they like. I think that our founding father did great job with the constitution of the United States, they make sure the power of the government is not over the control. The fifth amendment of the United States constitutions give an individual right from being prosecuted twice for substantially on the crime.
Others may think the exclusionary rule should not be used to enforce the Fourth Amendment. They feel at times it is necessary for the exclusionary rule to not be used. I can understand their position because they are looking at putting the accused defendant behind bars and make sure they are punished to the fullest. At times without the exclusionary rule, the case in court can succeed and get the result the prosecution and maybe even what the public want. Sometimes people feel the defendant has too many rights and has more benefits, which could help them get away with criminal activity.
Further, because most hate-crime legislation puts added effort into prosecuting crimes against certain individuals or groups, what about the same crimes committed against someone who doesn't fit into one of those groups? Will the crime be prosecuted to the same extent? If not, you're making things worse for the majority, who are likely to feel underprotected. If the problem is that too many people (of any group) are being mugged, or assaulted, or their belongings vandalized, you should put more effort into prosecuting muggings, assaults, or vandalism. Not to protect any one group, but to protect all
By specifically training an officer for such a unit, it would put the officer at the victims’ level and offer much more help than the average police officer would. If this was implemented, more victims would come forward because they would feel comfortable with reporting the incident. Other policies could be having the perpetrator pay restitution to the victim or possibly hasher punishments to deter future instances of stalking. Stalking should be treated as a significant problem; the survey found that stalking is more prevalent than previously thought (Tjaden & Thoennes,
Violent Crimes and Theories Violent crimes are a major concern for United States citizens. Although there has been a decrease in violent crime, it is still a huge problem nationwide that needs to be under more control. What causes a person to become criminal is a question that many theorists would love to fully understand. In the past, criminologists believed that people were simply born criminals. Today, there are several theories on why people commit crimes.
When you compare 2009 with 2004, there have been many different considerations in many different courts throughout the nation as to the rights of the victim and how victims can be assured that their rights as individuals won’t be trampled upon and their voice can be heard. If you take away the CRVA the courts today would be very different. Giving the victims the right to make an impact statement is very important. It allows the victim’s voice to be officially heard and allows the jury to understand the gravity of the situation. Vengeance Do I feel that vengeance is ever appropriate, even when it
Over the past twenty years, victims and their supporters have persistently pushed for improved victim involvement in the criminal justice system. Gradually, the United States has begun to take action on this issue. Even though remarkable steps have been made with the implementation of victim legislation and will carry on in the victims' rights field, not all states and officials have a similar opinion with the substance of victim rights legislation. Supporters have worked diligently for this mission and must continue their hard work to guarantee that all crime victims are granted rights that justly go to these victims and privileges that are no fewer than those given to wrongdoers. These rights have been given to victims through legislation
Gun Control This is an issue that I would like to address because majority of the people I know and whom I may consider friends and family have been affected by gun violence in one way or the other either directly or indirectly. I would like to propose tougher laws to be put in place for those who would like to get a gun, to those who have violated gun laws and those who are found guilty of using guns to partake in criminal activities. In deciding to deal with this law I understood that firearms cannot be out rightly be banned therefore to encourage fairness, justice and to protect the peoples right, the best option or way forward was to amend and make proposal to the current laws. It should be noted that my recommendations are for federal
