This was the representative of NBC’s Sportswoman of the Week. It was a 15-minute sportscast, featuring a lady named Sarah Palfrey Cooke, who was a 13-time national women’s and mixed double tennis champion. She was known to have interview outstanding female athletes of the time. Despite her athletic achievements, Cooke was often regarded as simply a “beautiful” Boston socialite.

In a country where women are brought up to cover all parts of their bodies including their face, when rape occurs the whole town sees it as a dishonor to the victim. Because of the recent attacks towards women from Col Muammar Gaddafi’s army, Lybian volunteers, such as Ms. Elgadi, has offered medical assistance for HIV tests and have included paying for abortions for the women who have been raped. This help often times leads to saving the victim because in Libya, “to be seen naked and violated is worse than death for them” (Harter 1). The well known phrase “killing with love” is justification for the females own family to murder their victim daughter because they feel they are saving the girl from dishonor to not only herself but to the whole family. It is the preferred action to take after a rape is discover for the majority of families in Libya because of the threat that is imposed.

Research Proposal Thesis: It is unjust to women not having choice towards undergoing the surgical performance of Female Genital Mutilation in certain parts of the world. Honor killing is a culture specific act that is defined by exicuting an individual based on the belief that they have brough shame upon their family. An example of acts that are deemed to bring shame are being a victim of rape, dressing in a way that is seen as inapropriate, or refusing to enter an arranged marrige. For example in this story according to (CNN) Gulnaz, a 19 year old girl in afghanistan got raped by her cousins husband. Gulnaz tried to keep it from her family for as long as she could until she became pregnant. After her family found out, she was sent to jail.
