The Holocaust genocide was the mass extermination of the Jewish population in Germany and other countries with German influences. The Darfur genocide that started in 2003 and ended when a peace agreement was signed in 2011 was when groups in Darfur accused the Sudanese government of oppressing non-Arab Sudanese people. These two cases are somewhat similar and different at the same time. The Holocaust was the mass murder of over six million Jewish people in German territories. The Holocaust started with Kristallnacht, which is “the Night of Broken Glass.” This occurred on November 7th, 1938.
The Holocaust vs. the Rwanda Genocide The Jewish Holocaust was the murdering of approximately six million European Jews. This horrific event occurred during World War II. The Holocaust was a program of systematic state-sponsored murder by Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, throughout Nazi-occupied territory. Of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe before the Holocaust, approximately two-thirds perished. This plan of persecution and discrimination was carried out in multiple stages.
In the Holocaust, there were 5.59-5.86 million and in the Rwanda Genocide there were 800,000 and 1,000,000 which could be as high as 20% of their population. In the book Night, there was a scene that showed the mass killings that the Nazis’ committed, they shoved all of the people in death camps and lined them up and killed them. In Hotel Rwanda they lined them up and killed them. Another similarity that they share is the cruelty and the heartlessness that they have. Even when the children were begging to have mercy, they still killed them.
It is inhumane and is against human rights. First of all, War is tool used to destroy the population numbers. Just recently there has been an article about an afghan massacre which killed 17 afghan civilians, the TV news also showed the deep mourning and sadness felt by the village. Destroying and massacring small villages just so the government can escape economic depressions and to put fear into the citizens is what modern wars are about. Fleeing refugees, murder from both the government and the enemy have resulted in such a devastated state of countries like Iraq and Afghanistan where the Taliban scares innocent people with death by military equipment.
On the night of November 9, 1938, violence against Jews broke out across the Reich. It appeared to be unplanned, set off by Germans' anger over the assassination of a German official in Paris at the hands of a Jewish teenager. During the Holocaust, six million Jews were murdered while others were thrown out of their homes with nowhere to go, hundreds became homeless and sick. One of the most significant events that took place during this time is called Kristallnacht. This is better known as, "the night of broken glass".
Genocide is the systematical destruction of a being by another being from the same specie. Most likely, genocide happens to the weak or poor civilization attacked by a most powerful (“Voices In…” n.pag). Is the case of Sudan where the Arabic community, with significant support from the government, kills weak and powerless black Christians (“Voices In…” n.pag). The word genocide was created during the Second World War (“Voices In…” n.pag). Genocide is defined as the massive killing of a civilization by another civilization for different reasons which can include ethnical, religious or political differences (“What Is Genocide” n.pag).
Through the impact of war turns soldiers into animals this leads to the soldiers dehumanising one another. It brings out the darker side of humanity and shows what we are capable of doing just to survive. Back before and during the war both sides would use Propaganda to fuel rage into their soldier’s heads convincing them that their enemy were evil and should be killed with as much terror and pain they could inflict. This would lead to torturing prisoners for information and even revenge. Even though we see glimpses of empathy and humanity the reader is still engaged in how war changes, dehumanising and desensitizing the soldiers.
Genocide is basically premeditated mass murder. Goodman questions why mass murder is any different from a criminal killing an individual victim. He states that the answer lies not only in the scale of the crime but the intent as well. “Genocide targets individuals as members of a group, seeking to destroy a race, a culture, a linguistic or ethnic identity, even a class (Goodman, 2010).” Throughout history, genocide has taken place in more than one occasion, causing wars, slaughters and mass destruction of cities and towns. I think that genocide is by far the worst crime in the world.
Rino Kim English 101 Essay 2 War is Pain Wars are often a time filled with violence and chaos. Times of war bring heavy emotions and actions. In Horst Faas’ War is Hell and Malcom Browne’s Burning Monk, both pictures portray the rebellion and hatred of war. They use different elements of pictures like dominance and subtle objects and color to reveal the negative emotions felt towards war in those times. War brings death and destruction to anyone involved.
Owen used his poems to deliver the truth about war and change the views of society at that time. He used graphic and gruesome imagery about the horrors of war in order to illuminate his feelings. The horrors of war are most vividly and strikingly captured in the poem ‘Dulce et Decorum Est.’ Owen attacks the reader with a barrage of detailed, gruesome, descriptions of life at war. He uses this technique of imagery to force the reader to visualize the truth about war. Owen also seeks to expose the betrayal of the authorities throughout poems such as ‘Disabled’ and ‘The parable of the old man and the young.’ He expresses how they acted with a disregard for the lives of their countries young men.
