Six Dimensions of Wellness Phillip Ceballos SOC 163 April 30, 2012 Roxann Ieraci Six Dimensions of Wellness Part 1 For each of the following six dimensions of health, list at least one characteristic, activity, belief, or attitude that reflects that dimension in your life. Provide a brief explanation with each example. Refer to Ch. 1 in the text for explanations of these dimensions. Physical health: The physical dimension of health and wellness deals with having regular physical activity within a person’s life. My job consists of performing manual labor activities. I must bend, squat, lift, and walk in order to carry out the duties of the job. Activities included in my job description include digging, shoveling, planting, carrying, mowing, and other physical demands. I work from sun up until sun down and in this time of the year that can be 16 hour days. Social health: The social dimension of health and wellness focuses on a person doing things for the goods of other or the community instead of for selfish reasons. In my life I am not a very social person. I don’t participate in outside groups or religious events. I think one characteristic of this dimension that would describe me is when it comes to my children. My wife has them or in the past has had them involved in group activities such as cheerleading, football, girl scouts, and boy scouts. These groups focus on the good of the group or community instead of focusing on one individual. Intellectual health: The intellectual dimension focuses challenging a person’s mind with activities that can help it expand. In my life I use this dimension quite frequently. I must think about all choices I make as well as the possible outcome before deciding on a decision. When a person has children and a wife all decisions ultimately affect more than an individual person so decisions must be made carefully.
