Showing animals takes a lot of time and effort to prepare and show for livestock shows. Livestock fitting and showing is the art of preparing, training, grooming, and showing livestock to make them more presentable in competitive exhibitions (Wolverton, 2002). The seven animals that can be shown include market lambs, dairy cows, dairy goats, beef, dairy beef, pigs, and market goats. Animal showing is a great way to teach kids and adults patience, responsibility, and good sportsmanship. Showing animals does have many importances. When showing animals people get the feeling of satisfaction and it can be very rewarding. It teaches one to become more confident in him or herself and to gain more responsibility. Having a show animal gives kids and adults the opportunity to feed and care for an animal. People also show for the fun of it. Animal showing is a sport to some kids just like softball and football may be to others. Everyone knows that when sale day comes for their market animals they will be getting a nice check for all their hard work. Even though it may take a lot of hard work and effort it is fun to get involved in animal showing. Showing market lambs is a great privilege to have. Showmanship is a mental game. An outstanding showman is at the peak of his or her game from the time just before entering the show ring to just after leaving (Faris, 2008). Showing lambs is not the easiest. In order to get a lamb ready for show it needs to be cleaned up and trimmed to the guideline expectations. First of all the wool needs to be sheared with a set of shears to 3/8 to ¾ inches thick. The wool must be clean and dry. Feet should be trimmed so the lamb stands evenly and walks correctly. A lamb’s ears should also be cleaned out.
