One of the functions of the criminal justice system is to administer a fair and just punishment for the crime committed by the suspect .Most Americans seem to agree with or oppose capital punishment on a case by case basis. Some Americans believe the death penalty brings justice, when someone is murdered. Capital punishment is a controversial issue in the society. Pros--Some people favor the death penalty because it is believed to deter crime. Criminals might think twice before they commit a crime if they knew they were going to get the death penalty.
Gun control has been one of the biggest topics facing our nation. There are so many different angles and arguments surrounding it, it’s no wonder a definite decision cannot be made. Gun Control is a complex issue that has been going on for years and shows no trace of coming to an end anytime soon. According to the F.B.I, in 2012 there were 8,855 total firearm related homicides in the US, with 6,371 being committed by handguns. (Newsmax.com,2015) We all believe that each of us has the right to protect ourselves but on the other hand we all know that some cannot properly use a weapon and some use them inappropriately.
Persuasive Outline Topic: Stand Your Ground Laws General Purpose: To Persuade Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience the importance of Stand Your Ground Laws in the United States and why it shouldn’t be repealed. I. Introduction A. Attention Step: The United States, a place where people die everyday, some due to natural causes and many due to homicides. Our homicide rates are rising every single year because of one reason, murders.
Over the past century, murder rates have gone up a record high leaving the death penalty as the only option to stop murders. There are some criminologists who believe that capital punishment does not prevent crime. In 1972, the U.S. Supreme Court abolished capital punishment due to the court case Furman vs. Georgia, that made murder rates higher then what they usually were. Many murders are caused by those who know each other i.e., relatives, friends, and acquaintances. Arguments go back and forth whether capital punishment is “cruel and unusual punishment” because of the torture people on death row go through.
Every single day someone dies here in America due to guns, whether it is by suicide, school shootings, or just even children playing around at home with an open gun at home. (Truth is we need laws and systems like this). It is a way we can reduce the number of killings by guns in our country that happen on an everyday basis. Although the individuals in the class may not have suicidal thoughts, there are many other people who do have to endure a daily struggle of debating whether or not to take their own life away. Whether we believe it or not, our youth is killing themselves and the leading way is by guns.
I feel that abortion is wrong because it kills innocent children and I believe that all living beings should have the right to live. Eighty eight percent of all abortion in the U.S. are performed within 13 to 14 weeks. By that time the child has developed a heart-beat , arm buds, upper jaw, lower jaw, eye spot,
“A relativist’s solution to such conflicts seems to be a recommendation of tolerance and the suggestion that understands the values of another’s cultures it also helps us respect such cultures” (Mosser, 2010). However, Lenn Goodman stated that there are many things that cannot be accepted nor should we have to be comfortable with it. Murder or premeditated mass murder destroys human lives every day. Murder kills hundreds to millions of men, women, and children. Murder cuts lives short every day of someone that’s not “marked”.
Violence against women occurs in all societies and all classes, regardless of cultural and religious beliefs. Violence ranging in the forms of domestic abuse, rape, arranged marriages, and even female circumcision is committed every day worldwide. “Authorities believe, however, that at least one-quarter of women in the United States experience domestic violence at least once.” (Kramer) As a society it is our responsibility to condemn these types of acts against women universally and punish those to the fullest extent that commit such acts. More shelters, legal aid, and educational learning seminars in our educational system at an early age. Many countries refuse to acknowledge that women do have human rights and are protected under those rights
Reflection Paper 2: Gun Control As a country we have witnessed a great amount of tragedy. Sandy Hook, Columbine, and Virginia Tech all have one thing in common: young, innocent students killed by gunshot wounds. Some would say “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” while others disagree. There are two large interest groups that have drastically different views on the growing issue of control. Those two groups are the Brady Campaign and the NRA.
Perhaps the most frequently raised argument against capital punishment is that of its cost. Other thoughts on the death penalty are to turn criminals away from committing violent acts. A just argument against the death penalty would be that sentencing an individual to death prevents future crimes by other individuals. However, criminals are not afraid of the death penalty. The chance of a criminal being sentenced to death is very slim.
