SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT THE FUEL PRICE INCREASE ? Lately, Indonesia has been shocked by the news of the rise of price of petroleum. Even though Indonesia is one of the countries which sells petroleum with the lowest price, people are afraid that the price increased will affect many factors of life. The factors will be stated in the paragraphs below. The first factor that might be affected is that the food prices will go up along with the petroleum increase. This can occur because of increased costs to be incurred in the distribution of these items. The second factor is the company’s operating costs will inevitably increase. This could lead to layoffs, and caused a lot of unemployment in Indonesia. In addition, for those who own a business connected to gold or use American dollars for their exchange rate are scared if the consumer’s ability to buy gold or things in dollars will be less. Furthermore, the public transportation tariff will get higher. It will be a big problem for the citizens who do not own any private cars or motorcycles. It will be harder for them to go to work or anywhere else to do daily activities. Another point, the fuel price increase will also affect the education field. If all prices go up because of fuel increased, the community will find it difficult to allocate their money or education expenses. That will costs a great number of uneducated children in Indonesia. The less it’s affect in health care. Because of the lack of money, the health of the community will be ignored and abandoned. The children will have malnutrition due to the lack of nourishing food. The writer’s opinion is that the government must not raise the fuel price and keep subsidizing the fuel for Indonesian citizen. The government should protect their citizens. One of many ways of protecting is by keeping the fuel price steady. It is way better than corrupting the
