Within your paper you will need to assume, first of all, that your audience must be informed as to what constitutes a historical critical perspective of literature. Additionally, you should consider some of the following critical questions that will help you in your analysis: When were these works written and published? Did social attitudes of that time influence the works and their reception? What kinds of social and historical understandings do readers need to have to interpret the works?

I think there are a few issue you could address in your revision of this essay. 1. Try writing an introduction. It should include the name of the novella, the name of the author, a little bit of general information about the novella, or about something related to the aspect of the work that you are interested in (such as Steinbeck’s cheerful disposition--just kidding) and, then, crucially, a thesis. A thesis is a statement of what you intend to argue in your essay.
You may elect to print out your article and do a first reading that uses strategies such as underlining, annotation, summarizing, and exploratory writing to make sure you understand the basic arguments. Go back to any sections that need clarification. On a second reading, start to pay attention to what Gawande is doing. You may want to outline the writing and describe the writer’s strategy. Notice how Gawande uses facts and personal experience (in most texts) to support claims, as well as other types of evidence.
You will find that it is a useful way to process what you’re reading, prepare yourself for group discussion, and gather textual evidence for your Literary Analysis assignments. ASSIGNMENT: Create a dialectical journal for Frankenstein. Your journal must have a minimum of two entries per each section of the novel listed below. Journal entries may be typed entries (12 point, approved font) or neatly handwritten in blue or black ink. Each entry must have a passage from the novel and a response to each passage.
