‘Distinctively visual’ is something that stand out and leaves an impressionable print, it can either be seen or imagined. Language and visual techniques are used to create images which help to see the world as the composers had created. Distinctively visual is explored in the movie “Run Lola Run” directed by Tom Tykwer and the poem “Medusa” by Carol Ann Duffy. By using effective visual techniques, music, using various structures and different contrasts. “Run Lola Run” is a post-modern text using stylised animation as a turning point in its three part narrative following Lola the protagonists, attempts beat the clock to get a hundred marks for her boyfriend. Whereas Medusa is free form which reflects the feelings and emotions of medusa allowing us to see the world of her which Dufy created. Tykwer conveys a strong independent protagonist in “Run Lola Run”. This is shown by the way she dresses and how she talks to Mani on the phone in the beginning of the movie. She wears cloths that seem almost masculine such as big combat boots, khaki pants with a belt and a Singlet, plus her hair is dyed a fiery red; a symbol of determination and independence. When she is on the phone to Mani she is very much in control, using powerful and assertive language to calm and direct Mani what to do, “Just calm down. Now what happened? Just tell me what happened. Okay!”. Lola is presented as if she almost has super powers; we see when she screams very loudly telling Mani to stop and close up shot of a fish bowl smashing in slow motion. Tom Tykwer has been able to show us that she thinks on her feet literally by how in the movie she is always running everywhere and she’s thinking what to do next when something doesn’t go her way this is distinctively visual as it’s different to most other films. In the poem “Medusa” we see Duffy writing about how Medusa feels about having a curse put on
