Different is defined as being “not the same as one another; unlike in nature, form, or quality. In Grendel, by John Gardner, the story follows the life and thoughts of a young, different monster, Grendel, and his alienation. Grendel is not so different from his human enemies. He can understand their language and their thoughts. However, he is never accepted.
