I have been inspired and one of the reasons of my inspiration is my school; Rogationist College. Let me give you a brief description about this school. Hannibal Maria Di Francia was born on July 5, 1851 in Messina, Sicily, Italy. His father, Francis, was a marquis while his mother, Anna, was a noblewoman. Although he was born into wealth, he chose to become a priest, adopting a simple and oftentimes deprived way of life. At the age of 17, Hannibal became aware of the lack of good workers in the Church. While praying before the Blessed Sacrament, it dawned on him that the answer was prayer. He confirmed it when he came across the words of Jesus, ”The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Hannibal was stricken with pleurisy. He suffered from it for 3 years but he never stopped working. He died on June 1, 1927. He was declared Venerable on December 21, 1989, beatified on October 7, 1990, and was canonized on May 16, 2004. The miracle that led to his canonization was the full recovery of Charisse Nicole Diaz, a little Filipina girl from Jaro, Iloilo, who had bacterial meningitis. With his canonization, the people of God now invoke St. Hannibal Maria Di Francia as the Apostle of the Prayer for Vocations and as the Father of the Orphans and the Poor. His life really inspires me. If there’s one part or episode of St. Hannibal that strikes me a lot, it is those poor children that he learned to love with tender and divine affection. St. Hannibal reminds me of Mother Teresa, they both love poor and needy people. We can be like them in our own way. Like me, I used to join feeding program in our barangay and sometimes in our church with all my heart. Each smile of those needy children touches my heart very much. I know that we can inspire other people in our own little way, and I hope this reflection inspires whoever is reading
