Road to Success

“How very little can be done under the spirit of fear” by Florence Nightingale
Choosing the profession that I am currently in was not an easy task in the beginning. I was not sure what I am delving into at first. That very quote reminded me why I chose nursing before and it came back to me when I was deliberating who to chose as my role model for this project. Ms. Nightingale was known as “The Lady with Lamp” during the Crimean War. She was also the one that helped transform nursing into a respectable profession it is now. She showed great leadership skills when she established the first nursing school at St. Thomas Hospital in 1860. Choosing to go back to school after seven years is probably one of the hardest decisions I made recently. I deliberated for a while and weighed the pros and cons of working full time and studying full time as well. I wanted to make the right choice and I felt that I could make the sacrifice in the next three (3) years to finish school & reach my goals. I chose Healthcare Administration as my field of interest because I am already in the medical field as a Nurse Manager for various Assisted Living Homes for seniors. This would help me expand my horizons and give me better career opportunities in the future. I believe that having discipline, empathy, passion, integrity, perseverance & confidence in you can help me succeed in the field that I have chosen. Management is a daunting task; I think that knowing how to handle conflict and diffusing a situation can be a great asset in my future endeavor.

Personally, an effective leader for me is someone that reaches out and communicates to other people effectively. If you are able to articulate your ideas well, embody someone with integrity, exudes confidence, a good listener & most importantly a team player. A great leader
