And if that’s sinful, then let me be damned for it!”(Scene Nine). She seems enraged that her reality is unraveled, that everyone now sees her fantasy for what it is, fantasy. Her lies about her purity, her age, her background, everything is now out in the open to be judged and scrutinized by the public. Blanche DuBois is a tragic figure. She is out of place both geographically and temporally (Scene One). She appears to be trying to remain a ‘young women’ when in fact she is getting old, this results in an unappealing persona.
Children often times react to scary situations based off of how the adults in their lives react. In the case of "Sasha and Gramma" Rice, K. F., & Groves, B. M. (2005) Sasha's reaction was based off of her grandmother's reaction. The situation was already scary and could potentially traumatize Sasha and give her a new fear of fire. What made the situation worse was when her grandmother showed her that she was also panicky while she was screaming for help. If Sasha's grandmother had remained calm while seeking out help most likely Sasha would have been afraid but not as fearful as she was in this situation.
The audience could have easily stayed home and read the play themselves, but they go to the theatre to see it come alive before their eyes. It is up to each artist to engage the audience and to tell the story. The message can give the audience catharsis, and may lead certain members to rethink aspects in their own lives. Sometimes, a piece can use spectacle to deliver a message, such as the musical “Hair”. Each artist must keep the message or the promise of spectacle in mind when creating his or her
Why is it too monstrous? The desperate tone in this quote expresses a sense of paranoia which could explain her reasons for jumping to decisions. Her imagination also causes her to be very exaggerated and fanciful; her relationship with the children changes throughout the book using hyperbole to express different opinions. In Chapter 17 the Governess says, ‘I’d rather die than hurt a hair of you’ this appears to be rather strange especially in comparison to other moments of the book where she says that Miles ‘was a
When I thought of Charlie Chaplin I imagined the Tramp, but nothing more. When I thought of Will Ferrell I could list a good amount of movies that he has acted in, and the key parts to each movie. So going into this research I was much more knowledgeable about Will Ferrell, and could answer most of the questions I asked myself when I began to research. So, granted, I did more research on Chaplin for this paper, but that ultimately is what made this paper worth writing. I started off my research by comparing the artist’s approach to acting.
People will also be angry once they find out the secrets that have been kept for one’s incentive. Pain will be one of the repercussions of the secrets kept hidden based on one’s impulse. One example was when Caroline was debating whether or not to send David a picture of Phoebe on the day of celebrating her confirmation. While she’s pondering what to do, she starts to think about how he may hurt her the same way he hurt Caroline, “without even knowing it happened” (234). Caroline, as far away as she may be from Norah and David, did suffer because of David’s secret.
Character Analysis Hester Prynne is the character I have chosen to accomplish this character analysis. I chose to analyze Hester Prynne, because she plays a major role in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester Prynne is a young rebellious lady who succumbed to temptation. This caused her many problems, because in her religion adultery is the worst sin you can perform. This caused her to be humiliated and punished in front of the whole town.
These key themes are evident throughout Act 1 and are used by Russell to explore the relationship between his main characters and to challenge the audience to consider the morality of their behaviour. He does this with cleverly crafted characters such as Mrs Lyons and her housekeeper Mrs Johnston, referred to throughout the play as The Mother this in itself is just one indicator of class division. This essay will focus on Act One of the play and will explore how tension is created and who the audience’s sympathy lies with. The play was originally written for school pupils as Russell wanted to allow students to understand the problems of society .This echoes the principles of the playwright Brecht who believed that the theatre is a place to judge society and explore social and cultural issues. In Liverpool, class differences were very marked at that time and there were commonly had expectations.
Blood Brothers tells the story of the Johnstone twins, Mickey and Eddie, brothers separated at birth who reunite and become friends in their childhood, unaware of their relation to each other or of the consequences their relationship will bring about. The twin’s families that they go to are off two very different social statuses. Blood Brothers was at first a book by Willy Russell and then was transferred to a play in 1983. The two children where brought up by two very different families of very different social backgrounds this therefor meant they were treated by society in a very different way and where expected to behave in a different way too. For example Mickey was a lot more mischievous and was also accused of things he hadn’t necessarily done because of his family’s low social status and because it was what people expected of him.
Guilt and shame could cause suicidal thoughts in a person. When a person is bullied they may end up feeling shameful of their character. In society today many people take their own lives because they can’t handle the stress that they have. In Jocasta’s case she couldn’t handle finding out the truth that she had married her own son. “Servant: It is the fastest of words both to say and to learn: our divine queen, Jocasta is dead.
