“Essay 2” “Red Serpent Ceviche” is written by Antonio Farias, In this story the author portrays a flashback combined with current time theme. In which Simon (The main character) locates his father in the 7 train, Simon seems to go into some sort of deep thinking phase. Which seemed confusing? In which he starts talking about diversity and saying that it isn’t exactly how it’s cracked up to be (Farias 72). Meaning that people have a false perception of it, and also claiming that the nostalgia that haunts him belongs to his father (Farias 72). Which in a sense it seems as if he has, or had a deep bond with his father. Simon then starts talking about “His People” which I assume is of his ethnicity, which are away from him but forever in his heart. As theme…show more content…
Then Simon goes on to say something quite interesting in which he says “There are still a few who can read a pig’s liver, interpret the movement of waters, and look into the souls of broken men.” (Farias 73) In which I believe Simon was saying there are still people out there that can understand you as a person and the things you go through. Just as he was talking about his friend Pacha, and described him as someone who once ‘Cured a traficante of a common cold” (Farias 73) and was “proclaimed a miracle worker” (Farias 73). Which from what it seems, Pacha was a doctor who loved what he was doing, and as Simon states he was someone who “Always Smiled” and ‘Would take you for someone he knew in his past life.” (Farias 73) Towards the end of the story as it seems Simon is done retelling stories of his past, he is tracing out the train searching for his father. As the story nears Simons becomes concerned wondering if he can ever let go of the past to let the future take its toll. (As mentioned earlier) As Simon gets up and offers his seat to a pregnant woman who apparently can pass for the sister
