Every country has different ways of living, different religions, and different culture responsibilities. The one thing we all have in common is we all produce waste! There are a few things we can do to minimize waste and that is reduce, reuse, and most importantly recycle. The United States should take a really close look at what other countries are doing to help prevent and cause pollution throughout the world. Here are some interesting statistics that will really open your eyes, and hopefully they will make people realize that there are many things that can be done to reduce waste. Out of all the countries in the world, Austria ranks the highest in recycling with a whopping 60% of their waste being recycled. The United States lags behind at 28%, which has actually doubled over the last ten years. The United Kingdom is only at 17.7% with Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Luxemburg not far behind. Greece is only having 10% of their waste recycled and that makes them one of the biggest contributors to the pollution in the world. (www.environment-greeen.com) There are many businesses that are helping the planet and putting money in their pockets at the same time. Imagine the money they would save on buying products if they would just recycle and reuse their old products rather than just throwing in the trash. Businesses that run on coal should immediately start thinking about geothermal energy which would be a huge cut back on the pollution in America.
