They are also relatively inexpensive for students from other states. Private high schools are schools that are privately funded and run by a body that does not answer to the state or the federal government. Although they come under the education department of the government and they have to adhere to certain regulations, they do not have to follow the syllabus that is offered by the government. Private school, however, are paid schools and their prices can sometimes be extremely expensive for the average person to afford. The same is true for private colleges, that they are extremely expensive when compared to state colleges, but they boast that they have a better standard of education.
Savannah A As quoted by Lyndon B. Johnson, “We believe, that is, you and I, that education is not an expense. We believe it is an investment”. This investment in a liberal education is what drives our nation, price-tag aside, into a successful future. Although a liberal education is an imperative investment, it is also a financial struggle for most people. In the text, “College at Risk” by Andrew Delbanco, a man best described as someone who believes that the ideal of a liberal education is essential, but also believes that it is “threatened by a world undergoing radical social, technological, and economic changes” (220).
This is building on to what he said earlier about doing your job and your job only, if you vote on stuff that deal with you will see stuff to start to get better. So, that statement is very logical. His usage of pathos happens later in the essay when states that people in higher positions should help out their students to get better opportunities and scholarships. An example of ethos is when he told his reader about the declaration on the “Civic Responsibility of higher Education.” (p. 175). This declaration said that colleges would help out students to get better resources.
Louisville’s district is made up of over 15 different private schools in the Jefferson District. Private schools have a huge advantage over public schools. However, this problem can be easily solved through the creation of separate leagues. Public and private schools need to be in separate leagues during athletics because private schools have an enormous advantage over the public schools in their districts, regions, and playoffs due to private schools recruiting players, more money for equipment and facilities, and easy schedules. In Kentucky, schools are separated into class 1A – 6A.
By doing this, he will not only have to work for a company he dislikes, he will save a lot of lives as well since nobody is going to be smoking Greyarea’s product anymore due to discontinuity. This will also lead to a better and happier society, and that is what utilitarianism is all about. As for being a Deontologist, according to The History of Utilitarianism of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the word deontology comes from the Greek word deon, meaning “duty.” Deontology is the normative ethical position that judges the morality of an action based on the action’s adherence to a rule or rules. It is the ethics of duty where morality is duty-based. If Fred was a deontologist, then he would have no choice but to keep doing the assignments that were assigned to him by the company he is working for because that is his job and he is obligated to them no matter the
Breyona Thornton B. Stubbs HUMD 0330-2019 14 September 2012 Journal Entry- Chapter 1 Step 3: Insight- Yes, I would respond differently because Darnell did not know what college was going to be like. He sees now that he has to step it up and focus more. Some possible outcomes for Darnell are that he has to pertain more to his learning than worrying and football if he wants pass. Step 4: Action- I learned that in order to become successful you have to think positively. I chose this because if you don’t have faith in yourself and think positive your outcome will be negative.
Working thesis: I believe that using technology would make us a better person and we can live a better life. 3. Angle: I would stand up and talk about the positive and negative about technology and whether we as youngster fall into social isolation. While many times it is not about the grades and getting into college, it is all about the other aspects including financial issues, level of independence and whether or not a major is already determined. Community College and four year Universities are both excellent choices, but are meant for vastly different people. If someone has a set career path in mind such as a lawyer, then pursue law school in a four year University. But if that person is not prepared to leave home or has no set goals in mind, then Community College would be a much better choice for that individual. The education that Community College provides is different from that of a four year university.
Our country prides itself on encouraging its citizens to better themselves through education. (P) While its priority has been high school graduation, many jobs now require college degrees, making higher education more important than ever. While I understand that every American should be expected to sacrifice during this hard time, just as we were in World War II, I feel that this particular sacrifice would put our country in an even worse state. (S) Our work force will not be prepared to handle nor understand the advancements that we have strived so hard to achieve. College is made to prepare students with the newest information possible, so that we can constantly be improving ourselves and be able continue to compete with the world’s leading nations.
