PSC 201 Chapter 10 Describe the impact of the media on the choice of candidates. TV and Politics The untainted function of the media is to carry information to anyone from anyone with the knowledge, skill or importance to make use of them (Anderson 1993, p.127). The most common forms of media within the U.S. are television, radio, internet and newspapers. According to Foerstel (2002), Americans spend approximately 40% of their lives consuming information from these sources (p.14). Mass media not only distributes information, but significantly molds our perceptions and opinions of who we are, who we share our world with, and the world we live in (Abrams 2001; Foerstel, 2002).
