Victoria Owen Unit 4222-211 Provide support for mobility Outcome 1 Understand the importance of mobility define mobility Mobility is the movement of the body and the ability to move. explain how different health conditions may affect be affected by mobility There are many disabilities that lead to mobility difficulties, most commonly from muscular and skeletal problems, like back and neck problems or injuries,broken hip, arthritis and other conditions that affect the joints. Respiratory and heart diseases can also lead to poor mobility as they can weaken strength, stamina and speed. Exercise expands airways which will improve respiratory conditions. Individuals that have had hip replacements should start moving round and exercising as soon as possible, gradually doing more physical exercise. Individuals that have lost some or all use of their limbs after a stroke will see a physiotherapist, who will go through some exercises to try to help strengthen weakened areas. outline the effects that reduced mobility may have on an individuals well-being Individuals with reduced mobility may become depressed, faced with the prospect of not being able to do the simple things for themselves any more, and having to depend on others to do things for them. They may start to worry about how other people will see them and what they will think of them now that they are unable to do some things or are in a wheel chair. Worrying about what others think may stop them wanting to go outside and they may become house bound.
