Although people claim that gun control has been effective in certain places, evidence seems to suggest otherwise. After a gun ban in Britain in 1997 thousands of weapons were confiscated by the British Police Force. “Gun crime in England and Wales rose by thirty-five percent for all firearms, and by a whopping forty-six percent for the banned handguns. Nearly 10,000 firearms offenses were committed”(Malcom). Gun control has also been implemented in some U.S. states and cities.
Naloxone was FDA approved in 1971 and has been used for decades by emergency medical services for reversing opioid overdose and reviving victims who otherwise would have died (Leavitt, 2010). I decided to do this paper for two reasons, one, this problem is not going away. The ‘war on drugs’ is not a war that we are going to win. But with the availability of Naloxone, it may save lives so that recovery is still an option in this fight. Background Approximately 15,000 people die each year by overdosing on opioids, a rate that has more than tripled since 1990 (Wermeling, 2012).
Others saw as a way to make more money than ever, charging twenty or thirty dollars for a bottle of champagne and two dollars for a drink of whiskey. In his article on Prohibition for The Observer, Dominic Sandbrook wrote that “more people started drinking now than before the amendment was ratified.” Prohibition was created to try and abate the moral evil and crime that arose due to public drunkenness. The reasoning behind Prohibition was actually sound. Writing in 1920,
Well according to the Huffington Post, six years after firearms were banned in the United Kingdom gun-crime there had more than doubled; and by 2009 gun-crime had jumped by a colossal 89%. So if your logic in banning guns is to prevent crime why ban guns if it will only increase crime-rate and make unarmed civilians vulnerable to criminals? Another reason I think firearms should not be banned is because if the
Repeat drunk driving remains a problem Despite already having tough laws against drunk driving, drunk driving continues to be a problem. Actually, China's leaders are now considering whether to make the penalty for drinking and driving even stiffer. According to a report in the state-run China Daily, legislators in Beijing are debating a new law that would up the maximum fine for drunk driving to 5,000 yuan and allow authorities to revoke the offender's license for up to 10 years. But the report does not say when lawmakers will announce a final decision. Consideration of the new law comes as the number of cars in China has exploded.
In Nevada, where this estimate was generated, the legalization has proved a success. The war on prostitution causes a huge deficit in taxpayer’s dollars and in fact in the city of Los Angeles alone “spends close to 100 million dollars annually dealing with illegal prostitution” explains Paul Armentano. Imagine what the legalization of prostitution would do for the economy. Instead of throwing money into prisons where it is “assumed that as much as one-half of a typical urban city's prison female population are prostitutes”
Crim 135 MWF 12pm-12:50pm Dr. Hughes Sex offenders are a statewide problem that keeps growing in the united state alone there are over 92,000 registered sex offenders. With sex offenders on the rise, residency restriction are beginning to tighten making it almost impossible for registered offenders to get their lives back on track. Some states have gone as far as banning registered offenders from 500-25,00 feel near places where kids are know to hangout. Although residency restrictions gives victims and their families a hard piece of mind. They make it almost impossible for offenders to get a fresh start.
Prohibition had a negative impact on the United States because of the resulting organized crime, the corruption of police and government officials and the lack of enforcement of the law. After the American Revolution there was a marked increase in drinking of alcoholic beverages. In an effort to circumvent this, various societies were organized as part of a Temperance movement which attempted to convince people to refrain from imbibing and becoming intoxicated. One of the most prominent and efficient of these was the Woman’s Christian Temperance Movement established in 1874. Initially these organizations encouraged moderation, but eventually the movement's focus shifted to complete prohibition of alcohol consumption.
This caused a big problem for the Liberal Government because they had promised land to the public but they never received it. With the failures of democracy were contrasted with the dynamic actions of revolutionaries like D'Annunzio. There was a huge threat from left wing parties post war because the Italy Public was looking for a way to recover from the war so people were looking for an easy way out, so they looked to parties like the Socialists, the Communist. Trade Unions were another threat. While with no money and unemployment at a hight figure, there was a high chance of strikes and revolutionary activities.
This definitely does more harm than good as it could be a bad influence on people listening to make them gamble, wasting their money and destroying families, the most important social unit up to this time. Source F is a very negative part of an article in the Daily Mail, 25 May 1964. This includes very conservative views from Mary Whitehouse. She believed very strongly that the BBC was not fulfilling their duty to promote Christian principles. This shows that the Sixties did more harm than good because, according to her, the standard of programmes was deteriorating which could have influenced viewers.
