It is very important to make the public aware of the new bill passed and the new doubled prison terms if convicted of armed robbery. If the bill were passed there would be the issue of financial responsibilities, which the innocent public would be responsible for. Doubling a prison term could be costly and one solution would be to seek some funding through fundraisers and grants from the state. The bill would costs the citizens but it would keep them at ease and at peace knowing that almost anyone would be discouraged of committing such a crime. I will provide recommendations as to whether or not this prison policy would be the best benefit for parties that are involved. So, while politicians talk about the “desperate prison crisis”, we should think about where the actual desperation really lies. The problem is that we need to stop incarcerating vast amounts of non-violent offenders for 25 years to life. Non-violent criminals with minor offenses should not be dictated under the three-strike law. Even with this simple change in the three-strike law, our society would save more money funding other alternatives such as prime prevention strategies. These strategies include programs designed to reduce repeat victimization in domestic burglary, theft, and any other violence.

Jada Boone 09/01/2011 US Government MYP - 7th Block Ridiculous Crimes Sometimes, it seems like the bigger the crime, the smaller the punishment! The law says that for smuggling marijuana into the U.S, it would be a lifetime in prison. For rape, it would only be 10 years in prison. If it were one thing I do not understand, it would be the time served in jail for these particular crimes. Not saying that they do not deserve time in jail, but how does smuggling a “plant” into the United States serve more time than forced sexual intercourse, which most of the time involves beating or severe harm to a person.
